Your child ticket should have worked the barriers on the gate line, probably be safer too than potentially eliciting even more suspicion by use of an EMR/Abellio duty pass at New Street...
Or I've completely misunderstood the whole thread :D
1) Doesn't really matter as there has also been a substantial waning of Covid's ferocity during the same period, it's how viruses tend to work.
2) You claim to be innocently and unjustly "got at" in this thread but then post comments implying that some here could only understand articles from...
Went to Specsavers a few days ago to find the table+masks+wait outside setup. So went to a nearby smaller independent opticians who had no such silliness. And in fact whose prices were virtually the same, too.
Committed booked: so effectively compulsory where booked and unable to source replacement cover, but with payment outside the salary.
Flat rate only so not a huge incentive for those on days off to volunteer.
Sunday as part of the working week wouldn't make any difference, or could even make things worse as then crew would be paid while off sick, whereas now if they go off on Sunday they get paid nothing.
Avanti have committed Sundays already, so those required to work jobs have to work, cannot just...
Wonder if it's just possible that the TM said "onboard CCTV" which said in some accents or speeds may sound like "audio". Seems like an odd thing to say otherwise.
It did indeed happen. Virgin could be pretty adept at cancelling trains, particularly towards the end of the franchise extension period when there were periods of "working to rule" and "no rest day work" by drivers and guards, as well as some industrial action by the guards.
Teachers did, however receive 2.75% (or 5.5% for new entrants) in 2020. Not a huge amount either but not zero.
Most traincrew's last one was early 2019.
In any case comparisons between industries are futile, there will always be someone getting something that someone else isn't.
Agreed: it's a pity though that those in power don't realise this. At the rate we're covering our agricultural land with housing estates, food self-sufficiency could become impossible too, if it isn't already.
Incidentally, a long discussion (a now-locked thread) about this proposed station can be found here:

I'd be more inclined to take it up with the hotel as it was their mistake that caused the transaction fee in the first place.
You could suggest a discount on the stay, or even a couple of free drinks on arrival, something that wouldn't cause you yet another sterling transaction fee, anyway!
Just one of many reasons why we could never have Japanese-style punctuality here. And also a good example of why many of those staff on a Saturday day off, do not want to work overtime.
People inventing bandwagons and then jumping on them without logic or rationale seems to have certainly got a lot more prevalent in this age of social media.
Friend of mine (who is classed in the vulnerable category) tried to ring the surgery near them recently - on lunch break so closed. Rang them again at 2 p.m - got a recorded message that said, and I kid you not:
"We have had to close and send our staff home, due to high volumes of calls which...
I still remember the very first time I stepped onto a Voyager back in 2002, and thought how "narrow gauge" it seemed inside, very cramped.
The lovely burning smell you get inside the saloon after braking for a station from 125mph is another unforgettable experience, too.
