ScotRail HST Introduction - Updates & Discussion

Can you share the data with us? What time period did it cover?

So I assume you're a fan of the refurbs then? :)

The prototype TF I can understand. Why not 43206?

ScotRail HST Introduction - Updates & Discussion

I agree this would impact new trains as the subsidies go towards leasing costs but electrification isn't affected by subsidy as it's a capital cost and infrastructure investment. From other forums, Glasgow southern suburban (Barrhead, East Kilbride and Kilmarnock), Dunblane to Perth and the...

    LNER HST Withdrawals

That makes sense. Without some changes to the paint job, I don't think it could go to EMR. Safety regulations now require the doors to be a distinct colour from the rest of the bodyside for regular service carriages, do they not? The retro livery doesn't meet that requirement.

ScotRail HST Introduction - Updates & Discussion

Are they not removing the ATP speedometers as well due to the recurring faults with those? I thought they had decided to roll that in to the upgrades as well?

ScotRail HST Introduction - Updates & Discussion

That doesn't make sense as there are already 9 north of the border. HA18 was the last one delivered.

Theoretically that would give you all 26 sets much quicker, so I agree on the surface that's a better approach, but would that not drive a change to the schedule and pricing in the contract? The agreed tender and contract was for 17 5-car sets and 9 4-car.

ScotRail HST Introduction - Updates & Discussion

Indeed. As is this was the 9th set delivered, this should be the last 4-car set. All subsequent sets should be 5-car.

Well understood by whom? The ScotRail staff? If a fitter can't fix a speedo fault but a driver can walk up and fix it on the spot (which has been a regular occurrence from what has been posted on here), that suggests there is a big gap in equipment knowledge and understanding. Other operators...

Again, they're working fine elsewhere. Properly maintained, they will work.

ScotRail HST Introduction - Updates & Discussion

I'm not saying Wabtec are blameless, and I agree that they are not blameless. I'm saying that they have become a convenient lightning rod for all the blame, which given the fact that the refurbished trains are working OK on other regions suggests other factors are at play and that something is...

ScotRail HST Introduction - Updates & Discussion

I agree things need to change, but as someone pointed out earlier the issue which caused a cancellation yesterday was a speedo fault which is a simple fix and could have been reset if the fitter had the knowledge. Something is failing badly organizationally if a driver knows how to fix it and...

I think you're on to something there with the prototypes. When you're doing everything off a drawing board or CAD you can't think of everything. We actually find the same case in the chemical industry where I work; if you don't run a pilot scale system to prove the unit operation as happened...

I remember they used to call them Scuds after the Saddam Hussein regime's missiles because once they departed you never knew where they would end up :) the vast majority the new designs we have seen in recent years seem to be beset by teething problems of some sort.

I see where you are coming from but keep in mind that for a machine to run it requires targeted maintenance. If an organisation skimps on maintenance (which appeared to happen at GWR), a crew lacks the experience to maintain the machine properly and/or the frequency of maintenance on critical...

ScotRail HST Introduction - Updates & Discussion

Yes, I agree with you there. I think they need a few more months to get to grips with what to them are new trains. I think 6 months is a reasonable timeframe. More diagrams are starting to be covered by refurb HSTs so (touch wood:)) they're starting to turn things around

ScotRail HST Introduction - Updates & Discussion

The useless things never appear, do they? How do you explain this then? Your sweeping generalisations with no data to back them up and what appears to be a condescending tone with people who have a different opinion from yours quite frankly don't do you any favours. I don't agree with you but...

ScotRail HST Introduction - Updates & Discussion

The last one delivered was HA19 which would mean that 8 have been delivered. I'm not disagreeing with you that availability is poor right now but this is a big step change for the ops and maintenance crews. Given that multiple rakes were in the works before ScotRail stopped taking delivery of...

ScotRail HST Introduction - Updates & Discussion

8 refurb sets are now in the country, are they not? Last data indicated we now have 5 sets actually in service on a daily basis, with more expected to be in service by the December timetable change, right? So we do have part of the fleet present on a daily basis, and as the crews get used to...
