West Midlands Class 323 - the final countdown

Was on the 11.55 from Stoke to Prestbury, very impressed with the acceleration and speed it maintained. Windows were open so I enjoyed the sound effects from passing trains. Had 228 on the way back and had time for a couple of pints of plum porter in the bod bar . Lovely drink.

Grand Central West Riding services deteriorating reliability: how could this be improved?

Only ever been on a 180 the one time when they were with GWR. Always remember thinking how comfortable they were, also, I was impressed with the acceleration. It was a long time ago though

RMT announces further strike action for TOCs & overtime ban for Network Rail

I do not think it will affect Cheltenham a great deal. Its a big occasion in the racing world and people will make it any which way they can. They provided 16 extra trains per day last year, which against the xmas period is quite low and as you say it didn't do the trick then.
