You don't need to walk past the Rock Tavern, just down past Torrs Mill, though in reality it is very unlikely the RRB would go down the hill to New Mills Central but would use the Bus station at the top of Union Road.
I would be tempted to go Stockport-Buxton by train, and then Buxton-Sheffield...
Buxworth is an odd one, as it only ever had platforms on the fast lines. As it served a small community, the only trains that would sensibly call there would be stopping trains, which would be routed via the slow lines. Only a small number of stoppers would run on the fasts between Chinley and...
New Mills Central is quite model-railway-like as it is built on the side of a steep hill, with main line and branch both disappearing into tunnels a few hundred yards from the station, and in the other direction the line curves round to where the fiddle yard would be hidden behind the steep...
In conjunction with my Eurostar tickets, I bought tickets from Sheffield to London CIV, to get the combined journey protection. I was unable to buy direct from Chinley to London CIV, but bought CLY-SHF tickets as part of the same transaction as my SHF-London CIV tickets. Does this mean that the...
Hello Trainpal,
Just noticed this thread, so thought I'd download your app and test it out on a journey I am about to make:
Chinley to Annan Return with a senior railcard.
Out around 9.00, and back around 18:00, both on Nov 27th. Your app returns a price of £42.05, whereas I can get the same...
The Middleton Railway in Leeds began by operating goods services to various private sidings en-route, and did so for several years. The BR connection was at Balm Road goods, if I recall correctly.
This is something I have asked Arriva Train Wales about, but they are unable to give me an answer:
I have booked an advance single Stockport-Machynlleth, and chosen forward-facing as a preference.
Obviously, I change at Shrewsbury for a Birmingham-Aberystwyth service, which reverses at...
Have a look at the six bells railtour info site
Your Three Spires tour is listed on the 1967 page here:

If this trespass business is going to become more common on Flying Scotsman-hauled tours, perhaps there should be paint ball guns available in the support coach for the crew to fire at (and subsequently help identify) the offenders.
Furthermore, if a bright green paint was used, this would...
From photos posted on Facebook, it looks as though the non-boiler end of the railmotor has suffered the most damage (above the bufferbeam). The ballast wagons look as they have only suffered minor damage. I have read that the damage to the railmotor was caused by the trailer coach's buffers...
A better headline for that story would be:
"Stoke Councillor wants to build new railway station...... 2 miles from nearest railway!"
Chatterley Whitfield is quite a long way from both the existing line, and from the defunct branch from Stoke to Leek. Furthermore, he isn't wanting to open at...
There are Light Engine movements (plus POB) for 44871 between Castleton and Blackburn on Saturday and Monday; 5Z43 and 5Z49. I think this confirms that its this loco. Unless West Coast decide not only not to use 45690 but also 45699 too, it does rather look like its a Jubilee piloted by a Black...
I am sure you wrote this purely to get someone to respond with:
A quote that is sometimes attributed to Richard Feynman is "If you think you understand quantum mechanics, you don't understand quantum mechanics".
So, I'll bite
Of course in Sheffield, not only does Platform 2 have A and B ends, but there is a platform 2C as well.
Those of us off the Hope Valley service, which uses it, refer to it (with some justification) as "The Platform That Time Forgot"
