Has Network Rail's big cleanup started?

When I worked at Leicester in the late 80's we looked after Forders sidings. A railwayman tripped there and lost an arm. Cue much expenditure and tidying up . Horse bolted methinks.

Has Network Rail's big cleanup started?

I had the need to do a short trip in London this week, Feltham to Richmond. I actually thought I would observe the lineside in passing and see the condition it was in with a view to comparing it to the LU when I went from Richmond to Acton. There is no comparison. The thing I really don't get is...

Has Network Rail's big cleanup started?

I read in a recent interview with NR's head honcho that he has made a firm commitment to clean up NR's real estate starting with lineside scrap, vegetation and graffiti. In the past few days I have seen several lorries on motorways carting scrap rails around. Are the two connected I wonder? Has...

    Vandalism at Stourbridge

This problem is I believe here to stay and there is only one solution. That is zero tolerance. Grafitti is about exposure and kudos for the 'artist'. Immediate eradication removes this exposure. London Underground seem to have got a handle on this and if the damage is removed immediately and...

Looking for secret shopper work on the railways

good day all, I am looking for some short term work and I know that there are some agencies who hire secret shoppers. I am only really interested on doing this on the railways - combine an interest with earning some pocket money. does anyone know which are the best agencies to approach for...

State of the lineside - comparisons with other networks

I am glad the new head honcho at NR is going to act on this matter. For me the confusing aspect of this is that this problem could be solved with a little attention to detail and without too much expenditure. Considering the massive amounts NR are currently spending this would appear to be a...

State of the lineside - comparisons with other networks

On a trip down to London this week I took little time to observe the state of the lineside in the immediate vicinity of the tracks. Obviously there has been discussion about this before and I didn't want to rehash old arguments. I am more interested in how other countries view this issue with...

Flying into Heathrow - a few observations

I flew into Heathrow this week after being out of the country for awhile and having some time free in London I bought a travelcard and did a little bit of bashing around London to see some of the newer railway developments. make the following observations as a layman looking in from the...

Advice for collecting tickets from East Mids Trains

Hi I think the E voucher thing is the best bet with east Coast. Just a last question if I buy a voucher and buy the ticket online with East Coast when I collect the ticket from the machine can I pick it up at St Pancras and when I do what will I use to collect - I assume a code of some sort...

Advice for collecting tickets from East Mids Trains

Hi Guys. Thanks for the replies. I am in Africa at the moment and flying in so the post option probably not an option. As a matter of interest if I booked and paid over the internet could I not collect tickets at the ticket office using ID or would I need to use the machine with the relevant...

    Mystery Shopping - Chiltern

Hi Guys, I am looking at moving back to the UK shortly and would be interested in looking at Mystery Shopping work on the railways whilst I find something more permanent. Does anyone know of and current opportunities - I am Midlands based but am happy to move around. Cheers

    How well is intermodal doing?

Will the gauge clearance work that are being undertaken make a marked difference to volumes. Is the high cube market a significant percentage of overall traffic?

    How well is intermodal doing?

I know railfreight is forecast to grow rapidly between now and 2020 and that intermodal is meant to be the driving force behind that growth. However in the last year the sector did not grow whereas the bulk sector generally did. So my question is can intermodal deliver this growth and has it...

    Graffiti to Trains

I came back to the UK earlier this year and travelled on the underground from Heathrow. It seems that they now have a zero tolerance policy to graffiti and much of the above ground line was free of any kind of graffiti - most of it had been painted out with a deep purple paint. With that in mind...

    FCC getting soft

Interesting discussion. I have no knowledge of how FCC's RPI's are paid but if they take details for dealing with later do they see any financial benefit from this. If they take an immediate £20 for a penalty fare I am assuming they will see commission on this. I am sure FCC have done some sort...

Wakefield Kirkgate refurb - any recent pictures?

Great stuff- many thanks. Looks like they are doing a thorough job on the building. Maybe a reflection on how railway heritage is viewed nowadays. In the dim distant past I am pretty sure it would have been torn down and replaced with a bus shelter.

Wakefield Kirkgate refurb - any recent pictures?

I am interested in the progress of this work. Can anyone report on its current status? Is the building looking in any better shape yet or is it still shrouded in scaffolding? Pictures would be most appreciated.

Euston concourse redevelopment by late 2015

I am interested to know how this investment can be made in light of the imminent redevelopment of the site for HS2. As the plans for Euston have not been finalised yet isn't there a chance that all this could be swept away within a few years.
