As promised, a mock up ROC (rigid overhead conductor)!
Although, it's not visible in any streetview after 2020, instead it looks like the have a normal SI to work on
I'm surprised that there's only 2 MDUs in East Mids and that neither are especially close to London. I think there are overhead...
Interesting. Makes sense as Bedford is an MDU for NR East Mids, at least they're not too far away from the site. I suppose once upon a time it was destined for Derby (which I think is the only other MDU in East Mids) to have an OLE depot too
I'm impressed with how quick the OLE went back up, as far as I'm aware headspans have extra complications compared to to other structures. Where's the OLE depot based for MML?
Exactly, it's great to have a story of upmost competence from the modern rail industry, especially Network Rail who are...
I think a DSLAM is the kind of equipment we're talking about for sure: for seperating analogue voice from broadband data, modulating the data onto a different medium and presumably doing some kind of packet routing. But I'm more curious about the scale of physical infrastructure belonging to...
And maybe also I would apply this to the Docklands Light Railway who seem to operate at least some services with train drivers, especially in peak times. I'm told this is to do with the risk of people falling on the tracks on busy platforms though there's a chance that's all made up and it's...
We do know it must have been ahead of WH154's overlap as the RAIB mention 1H46 passed the signal protecting Bedford S junction at yellow (that's WH356)
I see they had marked SI at Mitre Bridge which seems to suggest they were looking ahead to when a neutral section would be put there (apparently fed 2011) to split up the two Acton Lane supplies.
Interesting that Primrose Hill TSL was not present in 2008 (although naming one of the Camden...
I suppose we can witness a rare and unusual benefit of Headspan electrification structures as the entire OLE support structure can effectively be disappeared. With an OLE type using MIR (and so requiring portals or TTCs) there is another complication to this kind of operation.
As above pictures...
Thank you very much these are fascinating. I like that Harlesden TSL was on its own little cabinet, I imagine it was late addition related to the Railnet terminal.
This must have been a good 8 or so years after it closed. I presume it's demolished now, whereabouts was the building?
There's a...
The IET replacement for Voyagers feels pretty inevitable. Even with MML and Derby-Birmingham wired, they still have to run deep into the west country or negotiate power supply weaknesses on ECML and around Manchester.
I wonder if any useful freight electrification could be enabled taking wires further to Nuneaton. Also I find it surprising no actual intention has ever been made to think about electrifying Birmingham - Derby, one of the last 125mph areas with no electrification
Yeah they definitely should and would not be altering the platforms to fit the old standard train height. It would be out of gauge with container freight anyway I think
According to the ELR numbers it's just over 42 miles from Victoria to Leeds.
(I'm going off MDL2 which ends at Whitehall West Jnc at 42m 25c, datum is listed as Victoria via Huddersfield)
Can't think of any other line with a similar arrangement. Then again, significant lengths of electrified single track line are a bit rare. Maybe the lines to Largs or Wemyss Bay have it?
