I was going to post this in the history and nostalgia section, but as I’m talking about the tube I think it’s better here
The hype surrounding the Elizabeth line in the late 2010s and early 2020s was big, I also recall the Jubilee line extension being highly anticipated, while in the 60s there...
Lewisham Junction has been improved in recent years, part of the reason why it was always having problems was because it resembled Kew Gardens for a long time and was poorly maintained.
There is nothing coming to and from Lewisham’s Ladywell/Hither Green side to St.John’s/the Slows anymore as...
Hastings on High speed services would be ideal if it wasn’t for the fact that it’s on the wrong side of Ashford to join HS1.
I watched a video the other day regarding HS1 on the Marshlink, its journey time to London is currently 1hr40 with the faster journey being 1h25 to Charing Cross, the...
This. The Woolwich-Blackheath service to CST is pointless especially when you account for how many city services there are, Thameslink, The Greenwich line to CST, The Elizabeth line and the DLR.
Thameslink, CST Greenwich trains, EL and the DLR also serve the city too
And it isn’t just Charing...
That’s because since 2022 the service has been downgraded…. No Sunday service That and the fact that this service no longer goes to Charing Cross, it’s basically a duplicate of other city services that run via Greenwich.
Hopefully by eventually axing Thameslink from the line, we can someday...
There is a lot of value in the Blackheath connection from the NKL hence why SE brought it back for Sundays, Lewisham is a fast growing urban district one day to be connected to the Bakerloo line, not to mention it’s a major transport hub with far reaching connections across South & South East...
I wonder that if the Thameslink Medway service were to return to SE, and restored to its pre 2028 pattern would it be able to use the Electrostar 375’s?
Would be nice, perhaps a devolved version of Network South East - Transport for South East
As you say curtail it to Dartford, restore the...
I reckon Luton-Rainham will be gone by 2030 or whenever SE has enough trains then it’ll revert back to its old pre 2018 pattern I imagine
It was dead on arrival anyway, the Liz Line is faster to Farringdon than Thameslink is
I also felt that they picked the wrong Dartford route to send a...
In regards to the Luton end of the Medway Thameslink route I wonder if eventually they’ll extend a Catford service to top up the service levels lost at the aforementioned stations (Radlett, Elstree, Mill Hill Broadway and Brent Cross West) or perhaps resurrect Maidstone and run it as a...
Curtailing it to Kentish Town is interesting, for me the Medway Thameslink service is about 4-5 timetable changes away from becoming a SE service again.
This is a bit pedantic, the purpose of the old semi fast in its later years was simply to get Medway to key locations on the route and to TfL interchanges at Woolwich, Greenwich & Lewisham faster, not necessarily to get to London faster, as you’ve mentioned The Docklands opened up by then, for a...
Maybe not but Gillingham/Rainham is very much outer suburban and therefore beyond TfL’s London Overground’a reach, and it’s only because of Thameslink being shoved through the Woolwich line haphazardly that it’s a tediously slow service, otherwise this would absolutely be a fast service which in...
Are you? A missed connection at London Bridge can delay you and is actually more annoying
I do understand it, I’m not “choosing not to understand it” thank you.
SE was losing passengers when they put out that ridiculous timetable in 2022 which not only had large gaps between services but...
Agreed, by avoiding junction delays by encouraging people to change trains you’re not actually saving any time for the passengers in my experience
This as well, railways in SE London are a different beast to other parts of London, the Dartford routes alone are a network in their own right with...
Does it? It’s worked for commuters in SE London for generations, I feel that this supposed big deal and problem with 2tph to each terminal is manufactured.
And with the Dartford routes, a complex network in its own right where there are mixed stopping patterns and a mix of suburban metro or...
If you need or work in the West End, CX is useful like wise CST is useful for the city, whether you are changing trains at London Bridge for a specific terminal or on a direct service people will always go for the direct service, changing trains more often than not takes time.
Isn’t useful for who exactly? one line to two terminals isn’t bad anymore than one line to one terminal is perfect?
It’s an interesting read and it highlights that how even TfL knows that railways in SE London are a different beast to the rest of the capital and sort of acknowledges the...
This is probably a long shot idea but I always thought the Sutton loop could work like this
Victoria-Clapham HS-Brixton-Herne Hill-Tulse Hill-Streatham-Then the loop
4tph, partially restores the old South London line by reconnecting Wandsworth Road & Clapham HS with Victoria again.
As for...
That only touches a sliver of SE London though, so sure Woolwich and Abbey Wood get the benefits of it.
The EL while is amazing isn’t perfect for every journey and is prone to delays, as I’ve said, the EL was meant to be an additional link not a replacement.
CHX may be full, Victoria isn’t...
