45 years ago today so a long shot. Even longer when my question concerns HSTs on this date.
I am trying to fill some gaps in my HST formation records. Did anyone on the forum frequent the WR on this date and record any HST formations, power car pairings or in the absence of the former, units...
HSTs took over the up Golden Hind and Cornish Riviera and the corresponding down workings from 6th August 1979, running to existing timings. Actual diagrams were
M-F 05.07 Pz-Padd 10.42/11.30 Padd-Pz 17.07, SO 04.57 Pz-Padd 10.46/11.30 Padd-Pz 17.24
M-F 10.54 Pz-Padd 16.27/17.32 Padd-Pz 23.22...
From May 1980 when the 07.25 ex-Padd became an HST it ran via the B and H. From May 1982 it terminated at Plymouth and from October 1982 ran via Box to Bristol Temple Meads and down to the west country. The 07.25 terminated at Bristol TM from May 1983 when the first HST to Plymouth became the...
Thanks for looking. I commuted from Reading in the 1980s whilst working at Paddington. I regret not timing my morning commutes on the both HST and loco-hauled services, especially first thing in the morning, but feel sure I had some sparkling runs. The first up HST with a clear road all the...
My goodness that is quicker than anything loco hauled in the RPS database. The record for loco-hauled being 47624, 25mins, 15 seconds on the 10.35 Oxford-Paddington, 15/6/85. The perfect run, by the sounds of it. Do you have a detailed log? The RPS would be keen to add it to their archive.
That's brilliant. Had always wondered what we had up front. Many thanks for sharing the Gen. I am sorry I can't reciprocate. My memories of the tour was that it was a long and exhausting weekend. I travelled from Rugby. Remember being awake throughout the night of the 23/24 and nodding off...
Amazing, I was on the same rail tour as a young lad, but notebook from that day long gone, and memories now very scant. As such I apologise for having nothing new to add. Thanks for clarifying the outward route Czesziafan. I too would be interested in the confirmation of the return routing...
As built the TRSBs just carried the branding "Buffet". The revised branding "Buffet-Bar 125" was applied to vehicles overhauled from August 1978. onwards. 40018-37 were ER TRSBs, and looking back on the overhaul paint dates, it would appear that the following would have received the revised...
I am 99% certain I have had it. I work in a crisis mental health team, hospital based but providing support to people in the community to prevent admission. Part of the role requires attendance at A and E to assess people who are acutely mentally unwell. In the first week of March, I and a...
253 053-55 ran with 41172-74 initially.
253 053 and 253 055 with 41172 and 41174 on 05.08.82, 253 054 noted with 41173, 09.10.82 and still in set 22.12.82.
253 053 had 41167 by 13.11.82, 253 054 had 41168 by 09.01.83, 253 055 had 41169 by 02.01.83.
In regard to the last 3 NE/SW formations, 253...
On the WR the sets initially outshopped from 1985 onwardsi n executive livery received C2 overhauls which was a general/heavy repair. Perhaps the closest you could get to a Refurb?
I think the error may have stemmed from the fact that had the WR not had not had the additional 42091-110 added to its initial order, the vehicles from 42091 would have gone to the ER. Perhaps the painter was following an old list and put an E on it. 42091 was W prefixed, so it is a bit of a...
Yes I think you are right Helvellyn. At some point it must have received a C4 overhaul and repaint between 83 and 87. Post-85 I imagine when the livery was applied fleet wide and area of black was lowered. The experimental executive livery threw up quite a few variations one way and another.
Think it was the error on the part of the painter. 42092 was incorrectly prefixed E and mistakenly placed in a delivery rake that was loco-hauled to Heaton on 11/8/77. Vehicle was tripped back to York and inserted into a set (PCs 43058/59) returning to Derby from its initial commissioning run...
Nice shots, the second one at Reading being one of mine, from Friday 20th March 1987. Marshalled in Set 034 with 43175 in shot working the 15.00 Paddington-Swansea.
Brilliant summaries Helvellyn. Saved a lot of people looking for a concise summary of HST build/formations a lot of time I looked up some of my notes/observations and 40511 was marshalled conventionally between TF and TS trailers in PM24 set. The interesting thing about this TRUK/TRFK was...
10 WR sets gained an extra TS in May 1986. Sets 11-18/28/30 which by then were the only WR sets formed with a TRUB (40355/23/25/26/27/31/32/57/22/24). The additional TS vehicles came from a disbanded NE/SW set (42096-99), 42216/21 transferred from the ECML, and 4 TGS conversions which from...
