    Bridge Strikes

I think Tulse Hill Bridge needs big electronic signs with words to the effect: STOP YOU IDIOT, or perhaps some other 'french' phrases. Obviously the new reflective wrap doesn't work, it's not like my car headlights make it glow when I stop at the traffic lights down the hill. Completely...

    Bridge Strikes

http://www.trucknetuk.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=104468 --- old post above --- --- new post below --- I'm going to add that last weekend I added a note onto 'fixmystreet.com' regarding the pedestrian crossing which is just prior to Tulse Hill bridge. Basically my experience of that crossing...

    Bridge Strikes

knowing this location very very well, what they actually need to do is reduce the height of the bridge if it's not going to get any higher. 4.2m is just enough for the truckers to give it a go. I see a truck sneak slowly under it every time I walk under it. A quote I found on a truckers...

Double deck trains in the UK

Sydney's double deck trains max out at approx 4.4m, and even then that's smaller than european gauge (suburban cars being 20m x 3m width, the intercity trailer cars 24m x 2.9m). Doors are ± 1100mm off the rail.

    Coronation Street tram crash

i normally lurk about this forum reading, but i feel i must comment on seeing this: 1) i work in the film/TV business. 2) i just wasted nearly 3 minutes of my life watching that. 3) if they spent £5m on that, I'd be extremely surprised. Accountants in our business can be creative like the...

LIVID! Just got a penalty fare!

with today's mobile phone technology, if someone is having issues like the old street example (contradictions between railway companies), perhaps using the 'video camera' feature might help in situations like Old Street vs FCC. Only a thought!

    Rail Maps

state rail in NSW, Australia, did a 3D style map like the LNER map, of Sydney in the late 80s. Of course I have it at my place in Sydney ;) It looks west, so the ocean in the foreground & mountains & hills which surround Sydney in the distance.

very interesting about the glenbrook tunnel. I visited the tunnel as a kid a number of times. The only thing there was the mushroom farm.

    Australia on a budget

the xpts out of sydney to melbourne or up north to brisbane. the melbourne one i think is being cut back to Albury during the day at the moment due to major work south of there. With Brisbane, the UP & down are overnight/daytime respectively. The Casino service, which used to go to Mulliumbah...

    Travelling by train through Europe

inter rail passes are very good value. Have a look at those. I got a 1st class one & started in Warsaw, through to vienna, venice, zurich, frankfurt, amsterdam, brussels, london over a week. The expensive bit was Brussels to London, didn't need a supplement (only a reservation) for...

    Railways in Australia

I'm an ex Sydneysider, and have lived here for 3 years. The best journeys out of Sydney are the South Coast Line, The Blue Mountains Line, and the Central Coast Line. All are 'Intercity' services (really Interurban), and the trains are some of the most comfortable around, and that includes...

    Australia on a budget

as an australian, who has seen little of his own country (like many of us!) there is a reason, it's a bit remote. Rail Travel isn't as competitive as air or road, there are long distances between cities & little population in between to even justify a rail service in most cases. You're lucky...
