The trouble is if the Hampton Court get turned around at Surbiton you could have a wait on your hands. Sometimes they do get the new line trains to call additionally.
But let say I found it quicker to get the bus back to Surbiton.
If you buy you tickets using SWT telesales (02380 213600 or 0845 6000 650) you are not charged to post tickets out.
I have booked tickets on Southern's website and collected them at Ryde Esplanade a couple of months ago. So it could have been a one off.

An Off Peak one day Travelcard from Coventry is £31.00 adult on London Midland trains which allows to use the 0821 from Coventry or later. But London Midland are slower. Info from London Midland website.
I have look at the download of the EMT pocket timetable for that route it seems there are only morning services on a Sunday from the 20th May 2012. See link below.

Guess have to either get the bus which costs me or travel via Conolly and Heuston stations in Dublin on train.
The station is about a 7-8 min walk from the ferry terminal last time I went.
