Chiltern MK5s Starting 2026 (non speculative updates thread)

I can't imagine it occuring in passenger service, but there's an exception to every exception. Better to say not on a timetabled basis. For clarity as referred to by @PLY2AYS the train is longer than the platform face.

Social media ban for under 16s

This and the @styles reply perfectly capture the problems with legislation. My reply is prompted by the fact that @nw1 is exactly what happened at my school too.

Beaconsfield. Which it features as itself in an episode of Inspector Morse too.

    Films that feature the railways

I've often wondered whether the deleted scenes from the first Paddington film will surface, because what is featured was a mere fraction (totalling about 5 seconds in the film) of what was filmed, including trains and specially provided signage too. Further filmed at Marylebone in the 1960's...

    Network Southeast to Birmingham

I have a photo from possibly 1993 or 1994 of an NSE liveried 321 at Stafford working an unspecified working.

    Chiltern during WCML blockades

As long as all of the timetabled services run, I think the turnaround time is not a great consideration. What is does give you, is reliance if the stock for the next departure isn't there or needs changing.

Class 168 Refurbishment Discussion and Updates

Ah, sorry. Cannot answer that question immediately without looking it up. When you're dealing with trains everyday, one unit becomes much like another.

Class 168 Refurbishment Discussion and Updates

How far back in the past do you want to go? They've all lost intermediate vehicles before.

Class 168 Refurbishment Discussion and Updates

Incorrect. It's an intermediate vehicle from 168003.

Chiltern MK5s Starting 2026 (non speculative updates thread)

Embarrassing you may say, but it's a strong choice of phrase presumably without having the knowledge of what was wrong and who was able to fix it. Failing on Christmas Eve means that two days are immediately lost and arranging a suitable transfer move when train crew are working to the max...

    Chiltern during WCML blockades

Beware that there were quite a few F&S services on GWR too yesterday. However today is quieter than yesterday.

    Yes, you're spot on there.

EMR need to be stripped of their franchise

I think the thoughts expressed are a tad extreme. Were you personally affected or are you expressing disappointment on behalf of those affected? Are you interested in understanding the root cause or just going straight for the removal of the incumbent operator?

Looking for instruction/training manuals for the APTIS TIS (or any other TIS for that matter)

Apologies, I had believed it was available as part of their resources page. That said, they have a lot of material should you join.

Looking for instruction/training manuals for the APTIS TIS (or any other TIS for that matter)

https://www.transport-ticket.org.uk/ The Transport Ticket Society (link above) have a version of the full APTIS manual. It's a late 90's issue if I recall. Put simply, select destination first (as long as you want to issue a ticket from that station) and then the ticket type. Price pops up...

Class 168 Refurbishment Discussion and Updates

Hypothetically yes, if there was more than one unit ready they could be coupled together.

Chiltern MK5s Starting 2026 (non speculative updates thread)

Where there's a will, there's a way. The DMUs are bar couplers and care is taken with the planning for the tyre turning of 4-car units. *If* the Mark 5a sets were going to have tyre turning at Aylesbury, then there would probably be the opportunity to do it. Whether they will or not is a...

    Driver phone policies

@Horizon22 is correct. That's not to say that it can't and doesn't happen because you haven't experienced it. It can also be possible to send a 'contact control' message to another operators train.

    Unusual destinations included on blinds

There's probably a few different elements that make up the reason for unusual destinations, which may be worth stating. 1) Closed stations which featured on blinds fitted before the stations were closed and remained fitted because there was no need to change them, 2) Unopened stations which...
