    125mph Freight

Oh no, there are definitely freight EMUs as such but not many and definitely do not reach 125mph! 120kmh is the normal maximum for conventional trains in Japan.

Buckeye couplers, tell tale pin on SR MUs

Evening, Just a thought, with the tell tale pins provided on the Buckeye couplers of most SR MU stock is it still a requirement to do a pull away test? Bit random, cheers!

    Class 442 the future.

The motor cars are heavy enough as it is without a transformer being installed! They certainly suit the Brighton express runs when they were used on them a couple of years back, can't they just be used on that freeing up 377s that could be used elsewhere since Gatex is meant to get new trains.

What happens when you pull the emergency handle?

I thought it was 15 inch it dropped to which would cause a light application, 8 is quite fierce!

There's to be no standing on the platform

Stand your ground, you can stand where you like they can't physically move you.

    What should stations be like?

Staffed Toilets (not bloody pay ones either) Ticket Office + a few machines but ticket office should be open as much as possible Clean Canopy all the way along the platform Bins, preferably normal + recycling Benches Good audio and visual information systems Affordable shop or if a small quiet...

RMT concern over intercity express project

I would say it is unsafe especially for dispatch of the train as once youre passed those monitors you are blind to what is going on in the platform unless you're looking back but even then you have to keep an eye on the road ahead too. Customer service to passengers could be better with a guard...

RMT concern over intercity express project

I agree about the cash issue but i don't think £ should come over safety and its sad that it does in alot of cases. I disagree with the seeing the train out thing im sorry but the view from inside the saloon no matter how far back you stand is nowhere near as good as the view from a...

RMT concern over intercity express project

If there's the option to do so, it will be taken advantage of! And yes tbh a large part is to do with who opens/closes the doors. Personally I do not think this is something the driver should do (wrong side door openings, SPADs etc) and yes i do have a problem with the way things are done on the...

RMT concern over intercity express project

Too right they should be concerned, this is bad commuter trains without guards is one thing but express passenger trains without guards? This is crazy

Wow that is very nice! Somebody just needs to rotate those light clusters to actually be upright rather than pointlessly angled!

    Portable GSMR ?

Good thought actually as with the LU Connect Radio afaik when a train without a built in Connect Radio operates the driver can work it as long as he/she carries a mobile version. Maybe this could be a cheap fix for getting locos/trains without a built in GSMR back on the mainline like the few AC...

    Class 08

Practical thinking there, show offs can lean out and the shy ones can stay inside when a camera is pointed at them! --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Surely you have a shunter on the ground with a radio telling you what to do? Can understand if it's more re-assuring to actually...

Sorry to sound like a bit of a smartarse but when driving a shunt loco isn't leaning out the side the done thing rather than just looking down the nose out of those tiny windows?

    Preferred Intercity Rolling Stock

Personally if I was to have my very own personal intercity train I'd have any form of passenger carrying MK1 coach. Large windows that go low enough to get a lovely view out of, perfect seat alignment, most comfortable seats of any train i've been on and some excellent under-seat ETH heaters...

    Class 172 Question

I think it's the door interlock for the cab door as it's audible on all 'Star units.

    Inter Unit Gangways

Well on MK1/2 coaches and I assume on modern trains they are literally just a sort of hard plastic.

train driver kicks a selfie taking teen in the head

It doesnt actually look like a kick, looks more like the shunters foot just hanging off the edge?

    Desiro vs Electrostar ride

Desiro ride I find too smooth in away, you just don't feel connection with the track if you know what I mean and they are too quiet inside. Over a rough set of points though, they really are Disastros. Electrostars are all round better and still feel like a train rather than a plane.
