Are you for real ?
Have a look where the air intakes are for the aircon, in relation to the exhaust outlet, on the 159 you ride into Waterloo on. Hopefully you're not one of the unlucky 29,000 (or whatever the figure is).
Pacers, and all Sprinters other than 158/159, do not have dampers between the coach body and the bogies to reduce lateral body movement at high speed. This is the main reason they are limited to 75mph.
Given that an extra class 156 would be highly sought after by other TOCs, I doubt it will actually be scrapped. Every part below solebar is available to replace more or less off the shelf. If repair costs are deemed too high for some reason I think it would be stored so that Angel Trains have 2...
1) Yes, personally, it makes sense.
2) My priority is not to have a spad at a3 and will control speed accordingly to stop at the signal, this may mean a slower approach to platform (leafall etc).
3) They shouldn't moan, but for some drivers moaning is an artform ! If a driver "asks" surely your...
Given that the doors on most units merely require a T key to open them, and could all be easily forced, I can't see any terrorist combing the rail network in the hope of finding an unlocked cab door.
+1 ☺
The particular "Transit" engine they are using is already proven in many other areas, it is also probably the best engine (reliability wise) used in Transits. It is one of Fords industrial engines used to power generators, pumps etc.
Can't the D trains have guards on them then ?
What difference does NST make to doo ? I'm not saying there isn't a reason I just don't know what it is. To be clear I am against doo.
I don't think Matlock would be a good route for them in any case. Robin Hood Line could be an ideal permanent...
It seems to me that a max speed of 60mph compared to 75 mph should not be a major handicap. Providing the D train can accelerate to 60 mph faster than a 14x, or a 15x for that matter, then why can't they replace such units on the majority of their workings ?
In that case a major review of how trains pass through stations is required. Fail to call is either a safety of the line matter or it isn't (currently it isn't), it can't be a grey area...
Passengers cant be expected to randomly work out whether a train is stopping, or the driver has forgotten to call, hence they should stand in a safe position on the platform. What about an empty stock train, freight, network rail or other working which may pass through. If I approach a station...
This must have been covered many times, surely it's been established that train drivers are well paid and lots of other people don't like it.
There's another thread on here advising that Southern are recruiting guards with a qualified salary of £28547. That compares pretty well (in fact it's...
notadriver, I think you'll find a large number of Pilots (commercial) will be working for considerably less than what train drivers earn. Certainly those who would be looking to leave aviation for a new career. Except for the lucky few ex forces or those who have been successful at major...
