Hooton - Chester closed due to flooding

My apologies, I did read it all but then went away and forgot before I commented. Old age etc etc

Hooton - Chester closed due to flooding

It's been revealed by Network Rail that the pumps installed to keep the line open were deliberately sabotaged just prior to the heavy rain in the area. The damage was irreparable so a new pump (£30,000) had to be sourced and installed which is why it took over 2 days.

Hooton - Chester closed due to flooding

First train left Chester at about 1545hrs. I drive one of the rail replacement buses and was the last one from Hooton to Chester. We were then stood down at around 1700hrs. Apparently there is some dispute between one of the landowners alongside the line and Network Rail which is making a more...

Bus engine shuts down at stops, but not at lights?

Our e400MMCs do that if you are sat for a while. I've never been out of the cab though so I don't know if it would do it once the cab door is opened?

Bus engine shuts down at stops, but not at lights?

If it works properly it's a second or two at the most... nowhere as bad as the delay you get with some buses where you put your foot down and then several seconds later the bus decides it's going to go - awful on busy roundabouts.

Bus engine shuts down at stops, but not at lights?

I drive some where it's on the handbrake, not the doors but as stated above, a lot of the time drivers will just use the footbrake at lights. It can be quite tiresome with it stopping and starting all the time especially as they get older and fail to start sometimes meaning you need to go...

    RHTT 2024

They sent a 66 and used a wheelskate in the end, cleared the line about 12.30pm, 5mph from Aintree to Kirkdale. Here's a pictured I managed to grab just after the MPV had been dropped off.

Trivia: Closest distance between two bus stops

Closest with most services might be a couple of pairs of northbound stops on Stanley Road in Bootle, Merseyside. Either side of Trinity Road, approx 110m apart, services 52, 52A, 55, 300 (approx 10 per hour) call at the closest pair but if you include a second stop (approx 30m before) you also...

Trivia: Villages completely bypassed by buses

Arriva Merseyside's 300 service used to turn off the main A565 to serve the village of Haskayne (going back right through to Ribble days, then the 300/302). There is now a stop on the main road, a short walk from one end of the village but a reasonable walk from the furthest houses and too far...

    Merseyrail Class 777 introduction updates

The conversation was about rail staff crossing the tracks at places like Chester, not boarding the train. If the side lights are on they can cross knowing the train isn't going to move off. Can't tell with 777s.

Formby to Liverpool X2/47 Grand National Traffic

Shouldn't be... it's a bit too far away from Aintree for any direct effect. The traffic going into the tunnel from the north might be heavier but that doesn't affect traffic going into the city much... it's generally the football matches that cause a problem, beforehand, rather than after. I'd...

    Merseyrail Class 777 introduction updates

I think it's a simple case of there not being enough space to park them up here whilst we still have 507s knocking around.

Stagecoach Merseyside Cheshire and South Lancashire

Yes, that's correct. Peoplesbus picked up a couple of these to act as a spare bus for their school contract (686). WA04FOD and FOF. I think they were from Devon originally and then Fife. There's a picture of them after arriving at the Peoplesbus depot on their Twitter site.

    Bus driver medical

I've been on sertraline in the past and suffered no side effects. It does state that one side effect can be feeling sleepy (but it's rare) and it is given usually as it has fewer side effects overall. I've just started training at Arriva and we did a saliva test during the application process...

Merseyrail legacy fleet updates (Class 507/508)

507001 is in the sidings at Southport. A lot of the other Southport/Hunts X services are 507s though if anyone is looking for them.

Merseyrail legacy fleet updates (Class 507/508)

Is it possible for anyone to guess where 507001 will be tomorrow (Sat) and also if the last 508 will still be in service and where?

    Bus stations being rebuilt

Ormskirk was reopened in March this year after a year being closed for refurbishment. Better landscaping, new shelters, public toilets and a cycle route through to the train station alongside the footpath. Well overdue really as the former buildings were mostly abandoned years ago. Interesting...
