TRIVIA: Direct Buses Faster Than Direct Trains

I was going to suggest that the T19 bus from Llandudno - Blaenau Ffestinog would have been faster than the train, but it seems not. The train just beats the fastest bus.

Trivia: Trains which take circular routes

I was about to mention those. It's the same with the Merseyrail services from Chester.

    Trivia: Unofficial station name signs

Apologies for the terrible photo, but this is on the wall at Betws-y-Coed.

    Flooding disruption (12/07)

No, there's been barely any rain in the Conwy Valley today.

Trivia: What things don't you see on buses these days?

Sorry to wander off topic but I worked on this bus and its sisters back in the early 90's. I assumed they'd all have long gone off to be scrapped by now. It's nice to see that the name Happy Dragon has stuck with this one.

Heart of Wales Line closed again due landslip

I haven't heard of anything bad happening recently. Work is going on around Dolgarrog station and to the south of it. The electronic displays still say that trains will return on September 7th.

Cambrian Storm Damage / Conwy Valley Flooding 02/20

I've seen a few Network Rail vans on the A470 in the Conwy valley in the last couple of weeks. That suggests that something's going on with the line. All I can say for sure is that someone's replaced the handle on the gate at Glan Conwy in the last couple of weeks, which seems an odd thing to do...

Conwy Valley Line - Now Reopened

There's been another rockfall in the tunnel north of Blaenau and the line is partially closed again. Services have been cut back to Betws-y-Coed, apparently. More news on the Daily Post's website.

Conwy Valley Line - Now Reopened

The local newspaper's website now says that Dolgarrog Station is closed due to flooding which is odd for a station that isn't actually open.

Conwy Valley Line - Now Reopened

Thank you, though looking at it again the horizon isn't very straight at all. In my defence it was early and I was leaning out of a window.

Conwy Valley Line - Now Reopened

At 7.20 this morning here is the first train to call at Glan Conwy since March. Five minutes late as others have noted. Nice to seem them back anyway.

Conwy Valley Line - Now Reopened

The local newspaper is reporting that it will be closed for several weeks. From looking at the photos in the article there is a lot of damage to repair.

Conwy Valley Line - Now Reopened

I'm not at all surprised that it's closed again. The River Conwy was at a very high level yesterday and the roads down both sides of the valiey were closed at some point. The trains were cancelled yesterday anyway due to the unit being needed in the south for rugby traffic, but even the bus...

What is the least used station on our Heritage Railways?

I can't imagine that Llanbadan, the first stop out of Aberystwyth on the Vale of Rheidol gets many passengers as it's little more than a nameboard.

    Completely Empty Trains

Occasionally I'm at Llandudno Junction for an early Saurday trip to London. While there are usually a few of us on the 0537 to Crewe I've never seen anyone on the 0530 to Blaenau Ffestiniog which only really runs to form the first service back. It's even quieter at the moment of course, what...

    ATW Premier Service e

I tried it last year. We went down to Cardiff second class and came back first. The food was really good and a proper meal on a train is an experience I'd recommend to anyone. It felt strangely civilized. I recall paying about £35 extra for the first class ticket.

Conwy Valley Line - Now Reopened

It seems that the Conwy Valley line is flooded again. The 1457 left Blaenau today, but everything since has been cancelled due to "severe flooding". It'll be somewhere near Llanrwst again I guess, but there hasn't been that much rain around here today so hopefully it'll be open again soon.

LNWR / LMS Waiting Room Colours

I recently purchased the old station master's house at Glan Conwy. Stripping the wallpaper downstairs has revealed some interesting paintwork on the walls. Does anyone know if these colours might date to back when it was still a waiting room?
