I live in Reading and if I wanted to travel to East London I wouldn't dream of using the Liz Line all the way. Reading to Paddington on the Liz is around an hour. On GWR about 25 minutes (and also has toilets) . Changing at Paddington to the low level Liz line is relatively easy.

I regularly catch a Metrodecker EV on the Tower Transit 23 from Paddington, or an ADL E400 MMC which runs on the partially parallel 36. I find the Metrodeckers far less rattly than the MMCs are (and were at a similar age.)
