Yes it's the same behaviour as the Northern and TPE CAF units. It's poorly implemented, just like most CAF products. One big improvement would be if the indicators didn't activate until the train had stopped.
Using fax machines makes good tabloid headlines. At the end of the day, fax machines do not affect the day to day running of services at Northern. To think that getting rid of them will see service improvements is farcical. What really is needed is an agreement on how technology can be used to...
The Crewe line is a little trickier for 6-car 323 operation, as the Alderley Edge platform towards Crewe and the Manchester bound Chelford platform are both too short, both can only accommodate 4 carriages. So if a 6-car 323 ends up operating on the Crewe line, the instruction is that the rear...
The last service to Macclesfield last night (23.16) ran last night, strengthened to a 6-car instead of a booked 3-car. The 22.45 was cancelled fairly late notice due to no driver, which I believe was because the allocated driver had exceeded hours without sufficient rest earlier in their shift...
Yes the referendum is currently live and was emailed out to the affected conductors, I think it closes on Thursday lunchtime. I imagine the result will be released shortly after.
The last 4 trains out of Liverpool back to Manchester were all completely full. There must have been some event on. My last service back to Piccadilly picked up delays due to the length of time at each station to give people time to alight, and it was a 156 and 150 combo via Warrington Central...
I would expect 323 usage to increase in the May 2025 timetable change once more 331s move over to West Yorkshire for 6-car operation on the east of the Pennines.
Piccadilly is having a mere this afternoon and this evening, mostly down to shortage of conductors, around 13 short today! The rest of the week is looking better though.
Only 1 pre-planned cancellation showing on Northern's journeycheck page for tomorrow (caused by displaced rolling stock due to today's crew shortages). The new Rest Day Working agreement for drivers is now in place, so a fair reduction in cancellations can be expected this week. Hopefully the...
There is construction work associated with the roof on Platform 3, which causes issues if there is a wheelchair user who wants to alight at Stoke from a Northern service. So if there is a customer in a wheelchair alighting at Stoke, a request is put in to use Plat 1 to allow the ramp to be...
The use of fax machines is the very least of Northern's worries. But it is a nice little distraction to the real issues of poor management and inability to recruit and train efficiently.
The problem at the minute is the poor availability of 323s, so the 331s are having to sub for 323s out of Piccadilly. I think I counted 4 extra 331s covering for 323s today on the Stoke and Crewe services.
The 323s need sorting out, awaiting parts apparently, but I'm not sure the exact issue...
It will be the same for every Sunday over the summer.
Don't travel with Northern in the West & Central areas unless you enjoy overcrowding, short notice cancellations and disruption.
Something like;
'Flexi-Anytime'
'Flexi-Off-peak'
'Fixed-Saver' (which would be the advance purchase)
To me they sound self explanatory, but I may be wrong!
The timescales on the Northern disruptions page has changed from the 6th May to "disruption is expected until further notice" and "the line is not expected to reopen before the end of May 2024".
I've been told that the land around the landslip is still moving, so until the movement stops, work...
It did, the Up line remains open, it is the Down line that is closed. So services to and from New Mills Central will use the Up line with Single Line Working in place.
The Piccadilly to Sheffield services will all divert via Stockport (without stopping). The New Mills Central terminators will use Single Line Working between Marple and New Mills.
