    Virgin Trains to Shrewsbury

Wouldn't work as the hourly Wolverhampton services now continue to Glasgow or Edinburgh. You'd need to extend one of the other two Birmingham services. Somewhat ironically, one of the reasons the timetable was changed like that was to free up a few Voyagers, one of which would have worked the...

    Virgin Trains to Shrewsbury

That's only made possible by massacring the Chiltern timetable.

All Greater London NR stations in one day - can it be done?

I imagine he worked it out with his car.

    Virgin Trains to Shrewsbury

Nope, taking the Oxley chord that allows trains to go from Stafford to the Telford line directly.

All Greater London NR stations in one day - can it be done?

Heathrow is wholly within Greater London (LB of Hillingdon). Zones 1-6 do extend past the boundaries of Greater London (most obviously on the eastern Central Line). Caterham and Tattenham Corner are both in Surrey, but their branches are within zone 6. However Shepperton, another Surrey branch...

Funding sought for four new Dumfries & Galloway stations

Although some would say that the time released would be better used by adding calls at Motherwell instead.

Lothian Buses - Pair to travel on all 48 services - 9th Jan '13

Depends how delayed the opening is, of course. :P

    May 2014 timetable changes

Not sure about May, but the Catford Loop goes over to FCC/their successors in December.(Realistically this means no change, as it'll still be Kentish Town to Sevenoaks at the same frequency with the same stock. For the time being at least.)

    Rolling Stock companies ('ROSCOs')

FGW own a few of their HST vehicles. Although if they lose the franchise then they will probably just sell or lease them to the incumbent, or just sell them to a ROSCO. Not really a problematic situation.

    Waterloo platform 20 reopens tomorrow

You can only get to 21-24 from the International concourse, which is on a lower level (and in need of a bit of a spruce up :P). 20 is okay because you can get to it from the main concourse as it's back-to-back with 19.

Travelling without Tunnels Puzzle: can I get from Lewisham to Newcastle?

Unless it goes via Hatfield on the A1(M). (Although I don't think road tunnels cause nearly as much of a change in pressure as rail.)

    Waterloo platform 20 reopens tomorrow

    1. Not used by any regular services (a couple of railtours still use it though). 2. Because it's slap bang in the middle of the busiest passenger railway in the country, and you'd need to close the lot before you could safely knock it down. The other option would be to dismantle it, but that...

    Waterloo platform 20 reopens tomorrow

Of course, by the time the flyover opened, it was already known that St Pancras was going to end up being the main Eurostar terminal.

    Liverpool to Newcastle May 2014

Indeed. Also since then the Blackpool to York service has gone up from two-hourly to hourly, so it would be even more awkward to timetable it like that. Also would I be right in saying that both Blackpool to Scarborough and Liverpool to Scarborough would be operated by ATN Transpennine 158s...

    Cross Country history

But why is that a route that XC ever need? XC never avoid Birmingham. As I've said, stop thinking of it as an end-to-end service when really it's two.

    Cross Country history

Because XC don't (and never have) run via Uttoxeter. It's not one of their routes. Also if you sent it that way you'd lose a Birmingham to Manchester service, which is what it effectively was. That service was basically a Derby to Birmingham service and a Birmingham to Manchester service...

    Cross Country Query

Are the services in question frequently overcrowded? If not, and the passengers can happily fit into four carriages, then I see no reason why the other unit needs to be open at all.

    Kings Cross to Uxbridge

That weekend, the Piccadilly/District line is closed between Hammersmith and Ealing Common, and there is no Piccadilly service north of Rayners Lane (only Met going to Uxbridge).
