New Trains for Northern, fGW, fTPE... But not EMT

I can't see the 185s going anywhere away from fTPE, given the two new maintenance depots which were built specially for them, at Ardwick and York.

    London to Hamburg anyone

You shouldn't need to use a night train to do the trip. Eurostar to Brussels, Thalys/ICE to Cologne and then an IC from there to Hamburg should be easily do-able in the daytime. Of course, if you want to save money, flying may well be cheaper.

    German Railways-Any better than ours?

Thanks for the stats. It's interesting that their definition of late running is 4 minutes or more; the UK system would change those stats somewhat. I'm aware of the bad image; the bottom line is that most of the population isn't in favour of their public service being privatised, and I'm not...

    Compensation Vouchers

Thanks everyone for the replies. I'll put them towards a trip either on GC or WSM, and buy the ticket at the departure station.

    Say goodbye to EWS!

Schenker was a big, German, DB-owned forwarding and logistics company, which they sold off and later re-inherited. When they got it back, they put their whole freight sales and marketing operations into it and re-branded themselves as DB-Schenker. I'm quite sure the EWS fleet will eventually be...

    Open access-What's going on?

I thought Platinum trains was about getting passengers off BA and Easyjet, etc., rather than trying to abstract revenue from NXEC.

    German Railways-Any better than ours?

I've made a couple of trips in Germany over the last two weeks. First saw me on an ICE-T (the tilting variety) which was deputising for the normal ICE2 from Duesseldorf to Bielefeld, so I got a driver's eye view. The second was from Bielefeld to Basel the other day. Bought my ticket from a...
