On Saturday 14th June I watched 60163 Tornado depart from Huntingdon after a water stop.
The steam locomotive departed with minimal effort and as the rear of the train passed it became clear that Diesel Loco was doing most of the work.

on Sunday 8th June 2025 my daughter was on the 10.30 from Huntingdon to Kings Cross (1P83)
As it approached Kings Cross on the Slow line it was realised that there was no suitable platform available for a Twelve Coach Train.
Driver had to reverse train and gain the Fast Line for arrival into...
The headline is Manchester to Liverpool in 20 minutes..
TPE does Manchester to Liverpool with one stop in 34 minutes..Non stop 30 minutes..
So the idea is to spend X billions to save 10 minutes ?

In the Post War years I used Central in the rush hour.
At the base of the steps gates were closed just before trains departed stopping the last minute dash..
This of course is not possible when escalators are used..

Visited Nene Valley on Saturday and all seemed well.
They had used the Continental carriages for driver experience runs during the week..
The Mk1 train was in use on Saturday.
Tornado should leave the N V R under it’s own power..
I remember that when Thameslink 12 car trains were first introduced a despatcher was positioned by the drivers cab and gave a green flag indication to the driver to confirm all was well before the train moved off.
i imagine as a confidence boost..don’t know how long it was done for..
