Introducing RailUK Tickets - support the forum when booking your rail tickets!

Sorry but not much use to me as I can’t reserve a bike with my booking as far as I can see.

    Through Ticket - LNER

Yes I believe it is. Grand Central are an Open Access operator and don't have a ticketing agreement with LNER.

Are bike spaces a legal requirement?

We could use them down here in Yorkshire & Derbyshire if the Scots don't want them. Up to 10 bikes regularly carried on Hope Valley trains.

EMR mass cancellations on Liverpool-Norwich, 19/04/25

We were on the Trans-Pennine from Manchester to Sheffield that day. Absolutely heaving 6-car train and ran very slowly between M/C and New Mills. I did see one EMR train come past the opposite direction. 1745422665 It's mostly in the evening esp. Sundays when they don't have to share platform...

Lumo - passenger experience criticised in Which? review

AFAIK the only Northern service you can get a cup of tea on is the Settle to Carlisle, where the trolley is run by the Friends.

No services between Sheffield and Nottingham

But they would still have to run a bus to serve Dronfield.

Will Labour scrap the £2 fare Cap? (now confirmed will rise to £3)

Given the current government’s preference for publicly owned services, perhaps link the cap to a move towards public ownership i.e. start the process and you can keep the cap?

Are Swiss railways susceptible to shutdown due to forecast bad weather?

Not always the case - trains tend to keep running through the Hope Valley when the Snake Pass is closed.

Transport for Wales - lowest satisfaction rating

We are on the 12:03 Carmarthen to Manchester. Running late and absolutely heaving.

    German Rail in decline ?

Great, an opportunity to tell the tale of my recent trip to Berlin - please bear with me - On the outbound as we arrived in Bruxelles on Eurostar it was announced that the Köln train would not be departing from Bruxelles MIdi but from Bruxelles Nord. So the bunch of us who were travelling on...

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

Apologies if this is the wrong place to ask this - Does anyone know what the cycle storage is going to be like on these new trains? The cubby-hole storage on the GWR and EC units is a disaster and I fear the East Mids will be going the same way. Simon

    Northern DMU on Freight Line

Good to hear some driver training is going on. They don't cancel as many services as TPEX but still quite a few!

    Northern DMU on Freight Line

Anyone know what a Northern DMU would be doing on the freight line from Walton to Monk Bretton (West & South Yorkshire) yesterday? Crew training perhaps? Just interested - we were cycling the TPT alongside and spotted it.

Snowsports equipment could be banned from ScotRail trains

This just seems to be based on rumour and hearsay but could it be that Scotrail wants people to use their Active Travel Units, specifically designed to carry bikes and skiing equpment, rather than clogging up the ordinary passenger trains? If you need extra space on a train you could always book...

Ticket reservations on seats slow to download.

Likewise in France n the TGVs there are no LED systems or cards to indicate when a seat is reserved. Reservations are mandatory - if you find someone sitting in your seats it's likely they just moved to get a better view and if you ask them politely to move they always do so.

Sheffield to London: MML vs ECML

I often use Grand Central to travel to London via Doncaster - they go non-stop from Donnie to KX so the journey times are comparable, they have some cheap fares & they carry bikes unreserved. The trains have had a makeover recently as well. I worked out the connections from Sheffield and...

Virgin Azuma unveiled & plans for faster journey times

Thanks everyone for your help with this. I think these bike racks are a bit problematic: some cyclists can't lift their bikes to get them on the hook and they tend to bang around when the train is in motion. Not the best solution really.
