In my quest to travel on all the lines in Great Briton I'm down to currently two lines left to cover. One is Eurostar out of Saint Pancross. The other is Watford East Junction to Watford North Junction on the Metropolitan line.
Last night after my shift at work I travelled down from the North...
You are correct in stating that Cardiff Canton does not carry out any maintained on the Class 197's, just basic overnight servicing / cleaning. In my view it is a great shame that some sort of agreement between CAF and TfW cannot be reached so that 197's can also be maintained somewhere in the...
Lichfield North Junction - Lichfield Trent Valley Junction
and Central Rivers Depot
all done in the cab of a Class 197.
Without doubts one of the highlights of travelling by rail of my life.
From what I hear the facility at Holyhead should be ready very shortly. I recently heard October this year. Tyre turning is planned to still continue at Central Rivers after the facility at Holyhead has opened. I presume this is due to the quantity of trains which need tyre turning.
I did my trip as planned to Glasgow on Friday night with the trains approximately on time. Many thanks Statto for the tip of the 900 bus. I caught this to Edinburgh Airport. The return was slightly late which meant an easy connection at the Airport and less time hanging around in Glasgow...
The two 197's for the 09.10 Crewe - Cardiff were formed from stabled stock in Crewe Station from cancelled services. I think they were from the cancelled 06.40 Crewe - Shrewsbury service. They were stabled in Platform 8. However they needed to be shunted from here to allow the 08.19 Crewe -...
The bus carries on to Edinburgh so think I will have to change bus. On balance though I'd rather risk a tight connection then staying in Glasgow for 4 hours or going to Glasgow Airport for ages. If I miss it, it wouldn't be the end of the world.
Thank you for all your replies. I've done a little research. After arriving at Glasgow Central at 00.07 I'm going to catch the 01.00 bus to Edinburgh Airport and then the 02.10 bus back to Glasgow. Its a bit of a tight connection at the Airport of 5 minutes but should be OK. This is the 900 bus.
On Friday 19th September I intend to catch the last Avanti service from the South to Glasgow Central arriving just after midnight. The next train I'm catching is the 04.26 Avanti service to Carlisle which uses the Newton South Connecting line. My dilemma is what to do for 4 hours on a Friday...
I'm doing a slightly different challenge. My aim is to travel on all the passenger lines shown in the Baker Atlas. I go out on one trip a month every month. I've virtually done it all now. With just five lines left they are tiny stretches of track at opposite ends of the country left. They are...
I've thought of a couple more. Standing on Chester station with my Dad they announced that because a Chester - Crewe train all passengers could board the steam train to Crewe. My Dad and I rushed over to buy a ticket to Crewe and travelled on the steam train. This was in the late 80's when BR...
Class 47 from Roman Bridge to Blaenau Ffestiniog is my most unexpected service a long time ago.
More recently Class 67 and Mark 4 stock on Chester - Crewe shuttles has happened although I wasn't on those.
