I witnessed the aftermath of this and I seen some people which did appear to have some injuries, multiple people complained that they did suffer a fall on impact. The media report does not reflect what I observed.
Also the population of the country even according to official figures is much higher than it was in 1994, ever noticed how many more people you see on your local high street compared to the 90's? There in general seems such an increase in the population. Despite official figures some people are...
There are still many accidents thankfully most of them minor, only today I witnessed the aftermath of an impact of a Class 142 shunting and hitting a stationary unit, the media reported there were no injured people yet some people were suffering from some injuries. Accidents happen still quite...
A railway run mainly on paper tickets in 2018, it is hardly cutting edge or some kind of benchmark the UK system for sure, have you used railways in other countries?
Under BR the goal was bums on seats and provide a service, that goal does not remain in the same way today, the system needs to be run by railway men again with the goal to deliver a service and not by private companies or the ridiculous and pathetic DFT. The cost base is out of control today...
What about the current system where private companies in general have a monopoly and their goal is to make money, yet the public pay a subsidiary higher than when it was BR? Some sources also report that fares are on overage 115% higher than in 1995. I cannot share your view sadly.
Since the 1980's we have lost so much BR (BREL) designed trains, delivered them, maintained them and operated them and many of the trains are still in use today they cannot have been that inefficient. The real problem for me is that many of the true railway men have left, they planned for the...
You are right lets forget the past and just run Norwich to Nottingham services, as many of the traditional railway men have left the industry (in the UK at least) Can you direct me to a DFT petition where I can sign to support this? Passengers can change at Nottingham likely to an overweight...
I have a BR timetable from 1988 that advertises the Class 156 on East Anglia to the North West services that states 'save the stress of connecting in London' clearly the service has many benefits and at times the Blackpool North to Harwich and Liverpool to Great Yarmouth services were that busy...
I cannot agree with this many lessons have been learned since privatisation, when I used to travel between Cheshire and Birmingham under BR it was a 7\8 coach train hauled by a Class 86. Now it is normally a 4 car diesel unit despite the route having the wires up. I hope we do not return to the...
Class 156 from May 1988, sometimes the Harwich services were 6-car formation, Class 158 units started to take over in the early 90's although some of the destinations were cut Harwich from early 91. Before May 88 some services still did run through although typically loco hauled, from May 88...
We have been here before BR operated direct Cambridge to Liverpool and also Cambridge to Blackpool North with some typically one or two daily services to Barrow-in-Furness. How history tends to repeat especially when there is little strategy.
So under BR we had:
Blackpool North-Norwich
Liverpool-Norwich
Blackpool North-Cambridge
Blackpool North-Ipswich
Blackpool North-Harwich
Colchester-Barrow-in-Furness
Barrow-in-Furness-Cambridge
Yet today we have plans to move towards connecting services that do not offer the same long-distance...
