In my experience as long as the shifts are covered and you comply with the 12hr rule etc then you can swap as much as you want. There are people I know who work almost permanent nights, that makes it difficult for managers to do rides etc.
Cardiff mainline drivers often change at Shrewsbury but they also sign to Chester and Crewe so could change there too. Going west they do change at Carmarthen but can also go all the way.
Cardiff mainline are roughly 1 in 3, the valleys more like 1 in 6. All Sundays are shown in the links so you will know what you are working months in advance. There are plenty who want to work Sundays, so if you don't want them there are others who will work them for you.
The 41k includes shift allowance. Sunday's are paid at time and a third. I'm pretty sure rest days are normal time. The 41k is due to rise in July if the pay talks are sorted on time...unlikely!
Treforest to Cardiff is between 55 and 70mph. Caerphilly tunnel to Cardiff is 75mph. North of Ponty/Caerphilly there are stretches of 60mph in places but you don't get there very often!
Well, Arriva are losing 4 Cardiff drivers in the next few weeks to other TOCs as well as being short of drivers already. Plus there are gaps to fill in other depots. I'll stick with my number thanks :-)
What time train do you catch from Merthyr? Maybe if you are late so often you could get up half hour earlier and get an earlier train? Merthyr isn't generally one of the lines where trains are consistently late, Treherbert on the other hand.....
Saw the new set down Canton earlier on. The carriages/DVT looked spotlessly clean and the windows were nicely tinted. The 67 at the front today was the brown EWS loco with Queens plaque on the side. Loco was Cardiff end, DVT Swansea end.
