I like how tidy and consistent that feels, however... what’s the proportion of services that already run doubled up and there are about 450 seats on a CC HST, vs 400 on a doubled up 4+4 formation.
Given the chronic overcrowded use of CrossCountry that I’ve seen in peak in the...
I’d be interested in people’s thoughts for the 222 fleet post introduction of the 804s, I’d asked a few weeks back but the thread was locked with no direction to where this was been discussed... candidate’s in my mind other than the obvious CrossCountry options would be with the...
No focus on growth ? The 360 and 804 both offer significantly more seats than the trains they replace carriage for carriage the five car 804s could have between 285-300 seats based on GWR/TPE densities on the 802, that’s at least 43 extra seats per five car unit... similarly, the 360 in 2+2...
Reading this morning that Avanti will refurbish the existing fleet of 56 Class 390s and replace the 30 Class 221s with a new fleet of 10 electric and 13 bi-modes - Coughs, Class 80x... not unexpected, and of course there would be new stock down the line for HS2 classic services
Begs the...
Think it’s been suggested the 803 is for the First Open-access East Coast Trains units, which will have batteries instead of the single diesel unit of the 801’s
Perhaps not the best thread but I note on the Wikipedia pages, although not well respected for factual information... that the Norwich - Liverpool service is run by both 158s and 222s ? Is this actually the case now ? Or does it just refer to the odd specials that have been run in the past ?
Should TPE take the Nottingham-Liverpool services, could we potentially see some services added through the night to/from Nottingham as per other TPE routes ?
I really hope the intercity units stay in EMT/LNER colours, the purple is truly revolting... what are they thinking
I could live with purple as a highlight colour, but the 222 unit is overwhelming and just looks miserable. I suspect the units leaving will remain in current colour schemes...
Will be interesting to see how the pricing goes on the new fleet, I regularly use the 6am HST to London, the first class tickets are a very small premium over standard, unlike the earlier or later trains where first class tickets are often a significant premium - I thought this was the journey...
I recall looking at estimated costs for getting rail to the Airport when I was working on the Sheffield City Region Investment Fund, we pondered three heavy rail options, a terminating link from either the ECML or the Gainsborough Line, or a through line. We never looked at route, but a tram...
Just a thought, I wonder how the CDM documentation deals with end of life replacement of the lower level footbridge under the higher level railway bridge - i.e. Can it be removed without having to first remove the bridge above ;-)
I'd imagine the arrival of longer MML trains and preparation for HS2 will trigger a renewed opportunity to provide a second means of access across the station, perhaps even a wider access hall above the platforms.

There seems to be a lot of wind about this - the designs shown in Modern Railways show a set of table seats and three drop down seats - I'd estimate that it's a maximum of four metres between the front passenger bulkhead and the front doors. Fires are rare on trains, modern materials have...
Sheffield Supertram isn't as you claim, the end carriages have twin doors at platform level, with just some flip up seats and a wheelchair area - all other seating is up a step including the entire central carriage.
