I'm pleased this work is finally being done and hopefully timetabling improvements will follow in December with some of the kinks being removed, such as the 06:56 Nottingham to Birmingham New Street sitting in Beeston for about six minutes.
I am inclined think there has been a genuine cock up rather than conspiracy/corruption.
Remember the original budget for The Olympics had to be revised because they forgot to include VAT.
The fact that this has happened just before the judicial review at the High Court means DfT had legal advice that they were going to lose badly at the High Court and be on the receiving end of a pretty damning judgment. Better to come forward and admit your mistake than have a judge do it for...
Network Rail has confirmed that the work to resignal Nottingham station will take place next year, with substantial changes to timetables in the period 20 July - 20 August 2013.
The work has stopped short of a complete closure of the station for over four weeks which was originally mooted...
As a regular user of this route, I really hope this goes ahead and Nottingham is included.
After decades of procrastination and schemes taking far too long to be given the go ahead it's pleasing to the Government actually making decisions rather than the "yes we really must think about having...
Pleased to see that this is going ahead and Nottingham is getting investment. Though, I'm a little concerned that it appears that the long overdue work on resignalling won't be done until 2014.

I agree this a retrograde step. With a buffet car you don't have to wait a trolley to come to you, there's plenty of stock for hot/cold items, and from a passenger safety/security point of view, it's a reference point where you know you can always find staff.
On first class on EMT, it is...
Managed to get home without too much of a delay. I was lucky in picking the right train.
I was aware that there was disruption at lunchtime and thought the problem would have been fixed by the evening rush hour. I am very surprised that the whole station managed to be almost completely...
There have been huge delays and cancellations at New Street all afternoon. I am now on the 17.03 to Edinburgh (which has been extended with two Voyagers coupled together). Unfortunately we managed to get out of New Street but have been stuck for the past 45 mins or so behind a freight train on...
I'm no expert on employment law, but I don't think the ballot would be valid. Existing employees would have no basis to strike over something that does not affect their T&Cs of employment.
I take the point that TUPE regulations prevent LM from unilaterally changing the terms of existing staff contracts, but what I don't understand is why LM and other operators haven't put new recruits onto contracts which do require them to work on Sundays. It is quite common in the airline...
On the flip side, on the Heathrow Express the push button does not light when the train reaches the station and the doors are enabled. I often forget this when standing by the door waiting for the light to come on.
