Also, will they be able to use the BR double arrow for signs etc.?

Scottish Independence White Paper - Railways

I have a feeling that France may also have objections giving the nationalist movements in Brittany and Corsica.

Modern buses that have been scrapped

I don't think they were any good. I can remember every summer when they were in service there would be plumes of black smoke coming out of their exhausts.

Ashington, Blyth Tyne - Network Rail commissioned for study

my gut feeling is that it will happen sooner rather than later. Northumberland County Council will look at various funding options, such as loans etc. to fund it.

Ashington, Blyth Tyne - Network Rail commissioned for study

Something to do with allowing trains to pass at speed. However you are asking the wrong people, you should chase it up with NCC or Network Rail for their rationale.

Ashington, Blyth Tyne - Network Rail commissioned for study

The section south of Newsham to Benton Junction has some tight curves (Seghill and New Hartley spring to mind) however the section north of Newsham doesn’t seem too bad IMO. AFAIK Network Rail will be looking at resignalling and I believe the GRIP 3 study will look at re-doubling some of the...

Ashington, Blyth Tyne - Network Rail commissioned for study

IMHO the journey times of a Metro style service would not be advantageous, especially for people in Ashington. Also, the cost of electrification and new rolling stock would likely be high. I feel the best thing right now is to get a heavy rail service set up as cheaply as possible. Once...

    Tyne and Wear Metro

If they are using 2000/XP I hope they have decent security (i.e. Firewalls etc.) as 2000 is now end of life and Windows XP will be next year, so it won't receive any more security updates. Regarding Linux, the "professional" distros like Red Hat Enteprise and SUSE Enterprise have some good...

(Theoretical idea) AdTranz Classic style rebuild for Pacers?

I guess you missed the title  Porterbrook's proposals for the 143/144 easily appear to be clutching at straws at best, so why not go the whole hog? Giving the corrosion issues on the 142s and the doubts regarding the number of Sprinters released following the electrification cascades I...

(Theoretical idea) AdTranz Classic style rebuild for Pacers?

Hello, I was looking at Poterbrook’s Class 143 refurbishment brochure and I remembered that back in 1997, AdTranz produced the “Classic” demonstration coach which appeared to be an Electrostar style body mounted on an Mk1 EMU under frame. With that in mind, would it be feasible to remove the...

Should we introduce any new DMU services over the remainder of the decade?

The proposed ABT service would run via Seaton Delaval so wouldn't be an extension of the Morpeth service. I once read a suggestion of electrifying the Tyne Valley line from Newcastle to the Metrocentre and placing EMUs on the Chathill/Morpeth-Newcastle/Metrocentre runs. That would free up a...

Should we introduce any new DMU services over the remainder of the decade?

Northumberland County Council are hoping to get the Ashington Blyth and Tyne re-opened round about 2015. The target service frequency would be 30 mins peak/60 mins off-peak If they manage to pull it off the line won't be electrified so Heaton will require more DMUs.

    Appledore to Dungeness line

Dungeness A is fully defueled and all of the fuel was shipped to Sellafield, so I would imagine there will be less flask traffic. There were also some defects with some of the flasks that resulted in fewer shipments until the issues were resolved, I don't know if that impacted Dungeness though.

    Nuclear flask train times?

They could be powered by highly enriched uranium fuel, which could be converted into a nuclear bomb should it fall into the wrong hands.

    Nuclear flask train times?

As far as I know, fresh uranium fuel does not require extreme security as the U235 enrichment level in the fuel is nowhere near enough to create a nuclear bomb (See this) Unused uranium fuel can be handled with relatively limited safety protocols due to its low level of radioactivity. Fresh...

    Which buses do you dislike?

I have bitter memories of the Arriva Northumbria Cityzens: Picture (not mine) As with every other bus in the Arriva Northumbria patch they were run down into the ground and filthy. When it rained, water would pour through the window frames and the fluorescent light gondolas. They always smelt...
