Glad you enjoyed the breakfast down. I needed to get to Birmingham International yesterday, so deliberately got the 10:23 Euston-Wolves service which also offered the breakfast trial. Got a far superior at-seat service than I usually do on the weekday breakfast services and a lot more people...
It seemed to be a success judging by the large numbers of people at Euston on Sat. Good PR by the VT Marketing team but I doubt it'll run any time soon now that the peak summer season is about to kick in so more revenue can be made from fare paying passengers.
Offically, Virgin now offer an at-seat service on all of their Pendolino services 7 days a week. At weekends, its a limited offering of hot drinks, soft drinks and crisps/fruit/biscuits. Best to ask the guard on board as if there are staff shortages, you have to go to the Shop.
Are you travelling on a weekday or weekend? On a weekday, the Glasgow services leave Euston at 08:30 and 09:30, taking just four and a half hours.
If travelling on a weekday, you'll receive complimentary breakfast on departure from Euston. After Preston, a Scotish crew takes over and you'll...
The cheapest First Advance fare that Virgin do from New St to Carlisle is £43.50. These are probably more available on weekends than on weekdays, although no at-seat service is provided and you have to visit the Shop. On weekdays, the at-seat service is only from New St to Preston. Generally...
Definitely no complimentary service from the trolley service, if there is one. Whilst it's nice to be in a quiet compartment, the seat widths are exactly the same as Standard Class. Seeing as this route is now effectively an intercity route covering a long journey, the commuter-style FC isn't...
The revamped Euston VT lounge is a huge improvement, which now incorporates the old Medical facility next to the pub. Better lighting, plenty of seats, a Quiet room and the washrooms are a huge improvement too. Plus, it is now open for longer periods on Saturdays. During weekdays, there is...
Have you been in the NXEC broom cupboard-style First Lounge at Wakefield Westgate? Definitely the worst of the lot. When I used it last week, it was simply a case of walking into the Lounge. No staff to check tickets unlike Doncaster, which has video entry access.
Since allegedly this was the last batch of 2000 tickets, it seems unfair that you abused the system for your own gain although I doubt they'll find out if you distribute the tickets amongst friends. I wonder if some of the freebie tickets will end up for sale on ebay...
Done the Nuneaton-NW journey several times. I get the only direct northbound VT to Liverpool at 06:39 (the next VT north isn't until18:12), and there is a handy 10 minute connection at Crewe for the EUS-GLC Pendolino. At thta time of day though, when I go First I have to pay for First Anytime...
Haven't seen this posted, but anyone travelling First Class with Virgin on selected services during the coming weekends will receive a complimentary breakfast as per the weekday offering. I gave up booking the Mirror ticket so got a First Advance from BHI - EUS this Sat and should receive a...
A friend managed to book the ticket.
The T&Cs state that a coupon is required from the newspaper to present to the TM in order to validate the rail ticket. However, looking in the relevant page of the Mirror today (p22), I can't find a coupon to cut out and take on board. Does such a coupon...
Got my 10 digit pin, but at the moment I'm getting the following error message when trying to book my journey on the Virgin website - "Sorry, due to a technical issue we are currently unable to process your request. Please go back and try again...."
I think I'll give up...
Do you have to physically buy the paper to get the PIN code?
The above link says the PIN code is 'MIRROR'. But when I try to buy a ticket (of course I can't) I'm asked to enter a unique 10 digit Daily Mirror pin code. So does each copy of the Mirror have a unique pin code printed...
Did anyone manage to book one of the free Virgin Trains tickets in the Mirorr today?
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/top-stories/2009/06/09/free-return-journeys-only-with-virgin-trains-115875-21426388/
It seems that VT have reamed up with the Mirorr to fill up the empty Pendolinos for the...
Can it be an any Standard Anytime ticket, i.e. I recently travelled on one with Virgin where the fare was set by London Midland. Does the Anytime ticket have to be priced by VT in order to allow a complimentary upgrade?
Thanks for clarifying that. I guess the staff at St Pancras EMT ticket office provided me with incorrect info then, saying I had to use FCC to Luton Airport Pkwy. Let's hope Virgin see sense then. Obviously, it is the customer-facing Virgin barrier staff at Euston who should have been aware...
Yes, there are automated ticket gates at Bedford and your AP ticket to St Pancras won't open them as no break of journey is permitted unless for changing trains. I believe, terminating short is not allowed on a AP ticket. You can obviously risk that at your peril. The chances of the guard...
The London Midland page mentions that complimentry tea, coffee and soft drinks and cake/flapjack are avalible on Crewe-London services. Are you sure about this? I travelled on this route last week in FC and wasn't told about this when the trolley passed. I also thought that the catering...
