    Train cab rides

No, not 'basically whenever they want'. No road learning ticket, no ride.

    Train cab rides

Always makes me wonder, how many incidents have been prevented by having a second person in the cab (ie road learner) realising the mistake and telling the driver in time? Will never be recorded as the only ones who know are the two guys that were in the cab at the time!

BAD customer experience on East Midland Train

It's a guard, not a ticket officer, their primary role is the safe working of the train. Is your complaint with the guard because their skin colour is different to your own?

Hillingdon car park on a Saturday- how full?

When I used Hillingdon semi regularly there always seemed to be a space in the main station car park, on a Saturday I personally wouldn't worry too much :)

    Safety critical experience

I would have thought it was obvious that flying any type of aircraft is a safety critical activity?

    Safety critical experience

Hi mate. With scenario based interviews for these jobs, they are not looking for you to be a super hero, basically they are looking for a situation which needed quick thinking/actions by you. This could be a number of things, your experience with flying gliders is fantastic, you will find that...

    Suicide on the Railways

I view it as a selfish act, but one that isn't committed with selfish intentions. I do find it bemusing when people say people throw themselves in front of trains for attention and to be selfish. I don't think there is a single person of sound mind on this earth that would jump in front of a...

    Suicide on the Railways

    Complete and utter crap.

Person hit by a train at Witham - 24/01/2013

Do you not think that is a sad indication of the selfish attitudes within our society though? Someone is killed in a horrific way, their families lives ripped apart, the driver and other staff/emergency services having to deal with the aftermath and trauma yet most people are only concerned with...

    Youngest female driver?

It's slightly off topic but I became an underground driver when I was 18, then started on my mainline driver training course with a TOC when I was 20, that must be unique? Well done to this girl though, it is not an easy job to get into and she should be rightfully proud that she has got...

A career as a train driver

They're not after a superhero with the 'dealing with an emergency' question, they're looking for a person who can deal with a stressful situation with a cool head. the two examples you've said look absolutely fine to me.

Permissive working through temp single sections?

An example that springs to mind which I think the middle one would refer to is Southampton Central up and down loops?

Level Crossing Incident - Finningley (nr Doncaster) 4th December

It isn't a particularly long distance however I think the zoom used to take that photo is deceptive. Look at the apparent distance between the yellow distant signal and the red signal.

Network Rail to Replace Ufton Nervet Crossing With Bridge

Thankyou 455 driver, my thoughts exactly. Ufton Nervet was not an industry failing, it was a car drivers fault. The same for Great Heck yet they are both known as rail disasters.

First TPE driver suffers suspected heart attack mid-journey

RTC is something I have tried and do not find useful at all (personally). I think forcing drivers to use it is wrong as people find different ways to cope with running under restrictive aspects and it should be down to choice.

    Some Advice PLEASE!

Sounds to me like they've possibly written that little note at the end of the letter in the hope that you will apply again in future. I also suspect that maybe the reason you didn't get through this time was just because (don't take this the wrong way) there was someone just that little bit more...

Athlete stunned at lack of help to get on train by guard on board

If every driver stopped every train each time someone ran down the platform shouting because they've missed their train, you would in a lot of cases, never leave the station.

Athlete stunned at lack of help to get on train by guard on board

I believe everyone has the right to a fair 'trial' and as public sympathy will no doubt lean towards the lady in the article because, as I have mentioned, traincrew are constantly criticised in the media, in many (if not the majority of) cases they are then shown to have not done anything wrong...
