The future for Chiltern's Class 121 "bubble car" units?

If they are going at the May timetable change, are they going to any sort of 'farewell' for them, perhaps on Saturday 20th May (although they don't normally run at weekends).

    Titled trains 2017 UK

With the Flying Scotsman, I was looking at the Wikipedia article and it says that 91101 and DVT 82205 were given Flying Scotsman livery. Do these vehicles always operate the Flying Scotsman named service (leaves Edingburgh at 05.40 for London; one way only)? I like the idea of named train...

Central Line to Hainault via Woodford?

The current tube map does show that services can run through Woodford via the loop. I remember in the past that maps showed that the services on the loop terminated at Woodford, with a dotted line (peak hours only/limited service) connnecting the main line and the loop line. And maps lso used...

    'Train overshoots station' at Pewsey

I wonder if a station has no signal at the end of the platform if the driver could/would set back into the platform. Theoretically he would not need the signaller's permission as the train is the only train in the block from the previous signal.

ParaNorman - An animated horror film. Good film about a kid who can talk to ghosts who was to save the whole town from a witch. 4/5

    Level crossing delay

Does this crossing have CCTV as well so that it can be observed that the crossing is clear if the obstacle decectors can't 'detect' that the crossing is clear?

    Level crossing delay

I noticed that one set of barriers went up and down for some time then stayed down and I waited... and waited... for over 5 minutes. Anyone tell me why the train needed to sound the horn? (don't think they usually need to sound the horn at this level crossing). Out of interest, what would...

    Level crossing delay

About 7.30 yesterday evening I had a delay in waiting to cross Harlescott Level Crossing on the outskirts of Shrewsbury. It took 6 or 7 minutes after the barriers closed before the train came. After waiting about 5 minutes, I went to the phone and called the signaller who said there was a...

    Films you've seen/film discussion

I just watched The Lion King, i really enjoyed it (don't think i've seen it since seeing it at the cinema on its oriinal release in 1994). 5/5 I love these hand-drawn Disney animated films; mostly prefer them to the computer-generated animated films. Other than The Lion King, particular...

    Robot Wars back on BBC

I think with 8 robots the best format would be to have 2 groups of 4 with the top two going through, and then a knockout from there (this is a similar structure to tournaments like the football world cup and european cup). It would have greatly increased the number of battles though, which...

    Robot Wars back on BBC

I thought it was good. I did miss though when a robot was immobilised they allowed the house robots out of their CPZs to destry the robot; a tradition of the original. I suppose that was partly due to the group stage format they used (as the robot then has other battles rather than being out of...

    Groupsave question

Got a question about groupsave: A group of 3 travelling from Shrewsbury to Birmingham Snow Hill (with a change at Smethwick Galton Bridge, although the ticket would be the same if travelling to New Street). I can find groupsave for £9.50 each (total £28.50) but it only seems to appear on the...

    Films you've seen/film discussion

I saw Deadpool at the cinema a few months ago and I quite liked it. I found it quite funny and with a few bits of fourth wall breaking. I had thought that most of these kind of films are all the same but I think it is one of the best of these kind of films.

UK place names - your favourites

Braadfield Combust in Suffolk and Lytchett Mtravers in Dorset (haven't been to the latter; just seen the name on a map). I also like the names Danzey and Wootton Wawen on the line from Birmingham to Stratford-upon-Avon. Also station names Mexborough and Stallingborough.

    Landline scam calls

A number beginning with 00 indicates an international call and the code 20 (according to Wikipedia) represents Egypt.

    Films you've seen/film discussion

I went to see The Jungle Book - a live action remake of the Disney classic animated film (which was a childhood favourite) - It was very good. A fair few additions to the original film which I thought worked well. 9/10.

    End of Steam

There are still odd occasions where a steam train has actually provided a scheduled service where a steam train that would be used for a railtour happens to be in the right place during a failure, etc.

Trivia: Any 'isolated' sections of the NR network

Just wondering if there are any completely isolated sections of the NR network where it is not possible to get a train to run over. In other words, could a train on National Rail tracks theoretically get to anywhere else on Nathional Rail tracks in the country? (Ignoring issues about it not...
