What a load of cobblers. My pay is and always has been equal to my female colleagues within the same grade...ASLEF made sure of that and rightly so. The only difference would have been in paid overtime and that is worked entirely on a voluntary basis.

It's a very poor salary within the rail industry, and using the job title 'apprentice' almost gives them carte blanche to pay so little. Many companies are going down this route as the government provide funding for apprenticeships. There is nothing wrong with going in as an entry level trainee...

Very doubtful you'll have 5 months of classroom before hours.

Qualified are on full pay after Day 1 with VTEC. Same goes for Great Western, Southeastern, SWT, Chiltern etc. It's only XC that I'm aware of that has full salary pay imcrements based on time in the seat, routes/traction.

^Not true^ You'll be on full salary once you've completed all rules, traction training/hours and had your final assessment with a Driver Manager. Once this is done you're ready to work your first productive turn alone and then you're entitled to full salary. The two year period you mention...

It won't be for a driving position, and at a minimum of 4 hours a week, I would imagine it's making sure the carriages/coaching stock are in order, well maintained etc for their Charter services based out of Stewarts Lane depot

That's a really good point ^^^ I use these particular ear plugs when I go to gigs or clubs. They also help me get a good nights kip after a night shift. Of course disposable ear plugs provided by your company are ok but these work well for me...
