Cyclists - your experiences on the road

For that to work, 2 cyclists side by side would have to be at least 1.5m inside the white line, otherwise they’d technically be impassable from both directions. I’m not sure our roads are generally wide enough for that. I love cycling, but try and be as flexible as possible to the road I’m on...

On the search for an operational station with this layout.

Many thanks, this is what I’m looking for. I see there’s also a staffed version of this type of station a bit further down the line at Widnes which may be even more complete. I look forward to paying it a visit once lockdown restrictions are lifted and take a look.

On the search for an operational station with this layout.

Thanks for the recommendation. I’ll have to get hold of a copy. I did think finding an intact example might have been a bit of a long shot as smaller stations like these have mostly had building removed or the stations closed completely. I noticed Bow Street station, that reopened today in...

On the search for an operational station with this layout.

Sorry for the confusion, I was referring to the actual station Building. Bicester, Winslow and Buckingham all had the same design but are now gone. If possible I would like to find an example of this style of building still in use.

On the search for an operational station with this layout.

I’m looking to find a station, that’s still in use today, which was built to a similar design of the old Brackley station in the photo below. There were many stations built to this design around the Country in the mid to late 1800s, possibly designed by J.W Livock? But it seems most of them...

My idea to set train fares 'as the crow flies'

I think it's about £25-£30 and yes on this example it's an alternative solution. Maybe Oxford to Northampton would have been a better example.

My idea to set train fares 'as the crow flies'

Should fares be changed on the straight line distance between your start and end point of a journey, even if your train has to has to travel a longer round about journey to complete the trip? For example Oxford and Milton Keynes is about 35miles apart, but due to the 1960s line closures this...

Large building project north of Quainton

There is a large building project spanning the railway north of Quainton. Does anyone know what's being built? It has 2 large gantries either side of the track linked together with many overhead wires

    HS2 construction updates

There a huge amount of earth works just south of Newton Percell on the A4421 and close to the old Great Central line. Would this be in relation to HS2, and a sign that things have already started? The work looks too big to be anything other than a major project

East-West Rail (EWR): Consultation updates [not speculation]

Driving from Winslow to Bicester last week I saw what looked like surveying teams measuring up the sections of track west of Winslow where the road crisscrosses under the railway, and near the level crossing by the old Launton station. Could they finally be about to start building this project?

Bicester, Brackley, Buckingham and Winslow station buildings

I've always had an interest in Bicester London Road station and in particular it's buildings, it's also my local station. I beleave it was built by the Buckinghamshire railway company, who also built station buildings in Brackley, Buckingham and Winslow in very similar style. Unfortunately all...

    Station name suffix

    Makes sense, thanks

    Station name suffix

I've been looking into Suffix's on Station names and their meanings. Some of them are fairly obvious distinctions between two stations in the same town. Also the Great Central Railway used a Central Suffix on many of its stations. Does anyone know if the Victoria Suffix has a special meaning...

    Housing Development driven reopening suggestions

I have often wondered if an extention line from Aylesbury Parkway to a new Parkway Station to the south of Brackley could be cost effective? With a view to providing commuter traffic from Brackley and Buckingham into London Marylebone. Both are expanding towns with traffic congestion no nearby...

East-West Rail (EWR): Consultation updates [not speculation]

I noticed today the track has been lifted between claydon and Just short or Launton Station crossing. Presumably the freight train that's been going down there has been taking away the old track and sleepers

East-West Rail (EWR): Consultation updates [not speculation]

I think there might be progress on work today. This morning a freight train rolled though Bicester village station, over the level crossing, heading down towards Claydon. The track had been blocked off with sleepers but these were removed. Also noticed on Sunday the road between Steeple...
