True. We will have to wait and see.
I wonder if one long term solution would be an express section on the 22 with the only stops between Friar St and Priest Hill being Station North interchange and Bridge St Caversham, then the usual stops.
You'd still hit congestion on Caversham Bridge, but...
I see the point of it being an easy option - but it would be very slow in comparison to changing at Oxford. What stops an EWR extension, or what makes extending the Marylebone easier?
Apologies if this has already been answered on here.
True, although it will be replacing the Banbury stopper in some hours and that's already factored into capacity calculations. An Abingdon branch would also be a good place to send trains away from Oxford station, but sadly I don't see it on the cards yet.
Perhaps not 4tph, but there's nothing...
Chatter in a Reading Buses enthusiast group seems to think it will be an Alexander Dennis Enviro100EV, but we will see if it's true.
I think the Caversham Heights brigade put too much pressure on Matt Rodda and the Council to reinstate it, it would have gone down badly if RBC continued to...
Tbh a 2 car 165 isn't the worst idea - the Banbury to Leam Spa section might be a bit crowded, but the rest should be fine with a 2 car. Banbury to Leam Spa is only 20 mins anyway, not long to stand if you had to.
Maybe I'm misremembering, but I think the old TOC Thames Trains used to operate...
It certainly should have been something more, and even with the current upgrades, it needs plans for better connections in some areas like from Gosselies to the airport, but soon the network will have 5 branches soon I believe (with the resurrected line to the new hospital in eastern Charleroi)...
OK - what are you going to viably replace with HSR?
London to Newquay? A Cornwall HSR isn't happening any time soon.
London to Manchester/Newcastle? Perhaps, but removing those will barely make an impact.
London to Edinburgh/Glasgow/Aberdeen/Inverness? No chance unless HS2 gets a phase 3 to...
I think it's not ideal, but it's probably the only way to get people from the less densely populated parts of northern Reading/rural South Oxon onto public transport.
No chance that the council will subsidise the 22 - it doesn't serve any wards that vote for the current administration, and...
BFS is well located for the entirety of NI as that is what it served. Belfast itself has BHD, and BFS would be perfectly useable if they built a station on the Lisburn to Antrim line.
I agree it's very unlikely that we will replace most domestic London to NI/RoI flights this side of 2050, my...
The new airport would be an investment with so much more potential though - so much more capacity to support growth and the landing fee income could support the payback of bonds issued to pay for construction costs.
I dispute that redevelopment of the Heathrow site would cost us money - even...
Problem is that driver costs would remain the same. Fuel costs are dwarfed by the hourly rate you have to pay to employ a bus driver in Reading.
Maybe some sort of DRT would be better off the 23/24/25/29/X40 routes in Caversham/EG/the surrounding countryside in South Oxon. Could be a joint...
Why we are assuming a new airport would be so unprofitable to fly to, with the right transport links? An airport with 4 or 5 4km runways would have plenty of capacity and you could easily reduce landing fees with more departures as a result of the increased capacity.
We should stop confining...
Problem with your South Station plan is that it wouldn't enable through trains from Birmingham, which limits those interchange options at Honeybourne.
GWSR may be feasible as a heritage railway, but I can't ever see mainline services working through. Maybe a shuttle from Cheltenham Spa at...
I'm not talking about a secondary airport, I'm talking about Heathrow's location apparently being its key advantage. I'm not entirely convinced.
With modern HSR, not necessarily. Times change. What was unviable 30 years ago is now possible.
In a country like Thailand with a lower population...
Indeed
I appreciate that you have some knowledge on the matter, but with battery technology improving at a rapid pace, the lack of space is no longer a barrier in the same way it was before
