It wasn't just me then. The pop up is of the very irratating kind with no Reject All button and the 'legitimate interest' middle option as default.

2022 Conservative Leadership Election - Liz Truss chosen as party leader (and subsequent reshuffle)

Until the middle of July HMS Vanguard, one of the four boats, had been in refit at Devonport for seven years.

Yes they are rather nice with liver and a chianti.

How can the railway best contribute to fighting the climate crisis

What's wrong with pure electric? You know where the yards are so can use shunters, possibly battery ones, for the loading. Looking at the proposed Class 99 on electric it has to cart around a 'spare' engine, alternator and fuel and on diesel at starts out 500hp less than a 66 and has to carry...

How is that better? The company unless it defaults has to continue bond payments even if it isn't generating revenue. You don't need to keep making dividend payments. Just glancing at Severn Trent their gross profit is 9.5% and dividend yield 3.66%. Seems like if you want to be a fat cat you...

    LNER New Trains (2023-)

Does anybody have a link to the detail of the traction systems on originally ICE1 or Class120? In the UK at least we didn't use AC motors until GTOs were available as used on the 465/466 Networkers. Did the Germans have an advantage due to 15kv 16.7Hz power supply.

Well if you transferred the TfW 158s to GWR they would have 44 x 158s Plus 57 x 165/166s with the remaining 165s at Chiltern.

    LNER New Trains (2023-)

If the second tranche had GTOs from new and they all have\are being upgraded to IGBT what traction system did the first tranche of power cars have from new? I assume they didn't have DC traction motors.

Well it still paid over £100m in 'interest' payments to 'bondholders' that's getting on for 14% of it's revenue. Is that better than paying out 'dividends' to 'shareholders'?

The DfT didn't pay for them they are leased from a 'special' ROSCO like other stock but the TOCs concerned have to pay the extra high leasing fees for 25 odd years.

How can the railway best contribute to fighting the climate crisis

My point is that we should be tacking the big emitters. Going after domestic aviation or banging on about Sprinters on the Far North Line is a complete irrelevance, reducing the emissions of a very low figure by an even smaller figure equals no impact at all. The figures I quoted are GHG...

Indeed they do, the old Rolls Royce design heritage which allowed customisation of the basic design does let them down compared to the mass produced Cummins. By having them at one operator a 'centre of excellence' could be set up and easier more fruitful liaison with Cat\Perkins could occur.

    Brexit matters

Millions of Brits haven'r been abandoned abroad, they retain the right to stay where they are nd obtain residency\citizenship if they want. That is completely false. Nearly twice as many EU citizens took advantage of FOM as UK citizens. And of those who did the majority destinations were...

Were not just talking about Northern. Northern and EMR have a mixture of all three, GWR have both the Cummins and a large fleet of Perkins 165/166. The TfW 158s are Perkins. It would make sense for one operator to have all the Perkins engines.

It isn't just tidying up if depots only had to maintain one type costs would be less.

It would make sense to try and group together the three 158 engine types, Cummins, Perkins, Cummins 400hp

What's wrong with the 10 bus per hour bus service to Brighton and Newhaven? I hear Brighton nd Hove even have 50 odd hybrid buses do they get used on the 12 Coaster route?
