    HS2 construction updates

Looking at a drone video of the area back in May both EWR and HS2 routes at Calvert are a moonscape. HS2 are bringing aggerate from the railhead near the Greatmoor Efw and are busy building the EWR over HS2 bridge. Here is the video on Youtube

Should TfW take over Holyhead to Euston

TfW don't run hourly. They run every two hours but it is only four trains a day. 9, 11, 13 and 15 hrs off Birmingham Int.

MTU engines and hydrotreated vegetable oil

Although that is a concern HVO can be made from waste oils including tallow i.e. animal fat and can also be produced from algae via the same or allied methods. There does seem to be a boom in it at the moment due to the changes in 'red' diesel excise duty for off road plant.

I think the BoE should have raised intrest rates by 0.75 yesterday the markets had been expecting it but the BoE seemed too slow again.

The Growth Plan - Rail Projects

Yes first 'stop' on the freight only line from Walsall to Water Orton/Castle Bromwich. Along term aim of TfWM/Midlands connect to electrify it and reopen a number of stations. Stymied by the lack of capacity between/at New Street and Water Orton. Disused Stations - Aldridge

    Footbridge vs underpass

Shrewsbury for the first 50 years didn't have a subway. The station was extended downwards by digging out the basement/forecourt in 1901. Also around this time the platforms were extended over extensions to the Severn bridge and until the 1960s there was a footbridge at the south end.

TfW Marches line: are the rolling stock and fares policies appropriate?

Moderator note: split from https://railforums.co.uk/threads/ex-lner-and-grand-central-mark-4-sets-for-tfw.182406/ A couple of points, firstly their introduction isn't punctual as with all the stock TfW is introducing it has been delayed and SDO is still to be fitted throughout, secondly is the...

    Sprinter Extinction

To keep the cost of the diesel 195s as low as possible the onboard electrical systems use 24v i.e. the same as trucks and buses. 331s use 110v which is easier to derive if your starting with 25kV rather than an alternator.

195s truly awful, not a step forward

The Network Rail TNDS is a complete wish list. It isn't definitive in any way. NR even contradict themselves if you compare the TNDS with the Regional Traction Decarbonisation Strategies. It is also not surprising, see GWEP and the IEPs, that the infrastructure provider wants to palm off...
