It’s that time of year again….(a bit late if honest)… I thought I would ask the hive mind for recommendations as the wife is losing her mind trying to pick one. (I asked for recommendations for camping earlier in the year and had some good recommendations)
Our little boy is just 14 months old...
I recently acquired this signal but I am unsure what sort it is? Is it a search light multi colour one? I thought they were a LNER thing? This seems to be BR Western region? It’s wired up with a 6v bulb but I’m not sure if this is original? Anyone know anything about it or where I can read more...
I have just acquired a couple of signals along with a few other bits and bobs from the wife of a local collector. Her husband sadly passed away a little while ago and she is now passing on his collection. Most has gone to auction but some bits were too big or heavy and I have now got some of the...
What heritage railways have a camp site within walking distance of one of the stations? Looking for inspiration for some long weekends camping and the opportunity to cross off another railway,
Thanks
Here’s a rather niche request.. can you buy or download to print off a map of all the heritage rail ways in the UK? My wife and I are slowly ticking them off, our little boy is only 10 months old but already been on 11 heritage railways… but we would like some kind of map where we can highlight...
Hello hive mind, this might be a relatively easy one for some… which heritage railways are Southern themed?
We have visited a number of GWR ones while on holidays, MR ones as we are based in the midlands and even a couple of LNER ones, but no Southern ones yet so that’s our next task.. but we...

(Sorry on my phone and it won’t play ball copying the text due to the rubbish website)
Not a good sign I’m guessing, been a few years since I have been on Llangollen railway, but i...
Hopefully some of the brilliant minds on here will know the answer…
My folks have been on a “rail” holiday, booked via a travel agent, trains from their home town to fort William, couple if excursions again on the normal rail network and then back home again via normal public trains.
One of...
I apologise if this is the wrong area, I wasn’t sure where to post it… however here goes,
I have a bardic lamp which I would like to use however I need a battery for it. I had seen some one selling D cell conversion kits for them on eBay but they don’t ever seem to be in stock and emailing the...
A couple of years ago I got a BR (M) paraffin lamp which I planned to use as a table lamp in the summer in the evening.
However should it be polished? Or painted?
It looks pretty much like this but the top dome is black.
I was going to shine up the bottom with brasso but not sure if it should...
Why is EMR still useless? I was looking to leave Nottingham this eve after 10:30 and there’s nothing till 23:30, this was looking at going to Long Eaton, East Midlands Parkway or Loughborough to avoid having to drive into the middle of Notts and park but seems I have no option (Trams not much...
Back in Sept my wife and I got married at GCR and we would highly recommend it to anyone who’s considering getting hitched and has an interest in anything railway and vintage.
we had the ceremony in the gallery room, then the wedding breakfast on the veranda car which was brilliant. We had our...
In light of the GA thread I am just checking I have this right….. reading this post https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/delay-repay-applies-to-the-journey-regardless-of-number-of-tickets-held-mythbuster.198338/ it seems that I can claim for the full journey? We was caught up in the southern...
Anyone else having fun with the southern WCML today? Been sat for 40 mins between Bletchley and Leighton buzzard. (Just started moving now). It’s been a fun day as should have been in London and back out the other side by now… we had a Cl56 with a 720 attached for company while waiting.
what’s...
Just been looking at trips down in Devon etc and there is something odd going on with the reservations etc.
EMR app tells me a train is sold out... GWR app would happily sell me tickets for the same train but fell over at the payment stage...
As seat reservations were needed that box is ticked...
Holiday season is here, and as we can now go away etc are the trains getting busier?
we are away mid to late August and plan on going a few places by train as day trips like we have done before as it is easier to leave the camper van on the site and hop on a train at Dawlish Warren.. last year...

The out going livery does look rather smart, suits the sprinters pretty well it seems to me, wonder what a 170 would be like in it?
Did any train seats come with foot rests? Like the sort you used to get on coaches that fold down from the seat in front?
if so which ones had it? I am guessing maybe mk3 coaches in first class?
What is the round thing with the 3 rivets holding it in place? My first guess when asked was either something like an arm rest when the stock was new but don’t think so after a google, or something to do with holding the seat base in place?
Anyone know for sure?
