Exactly. There will probably be further savings to be had buying a monthly, 3 monthly or annual ticket. For those that can't afford the outlay employers (well mine does) have schemes to loan you the money for the cost of annual pass. Even if your employer doesn't the East Sussex credit union...
I don't have a particular nostalgia for them as before my time although my Uncle/Dad like them and have no passion for diesels. I do enjoy them from an engineering perspective as I have a fascination for lots of mechanical things (not so much cars though). I also enjoy other stuff on heritage...

I always thank the driver but now middle doors are more common in Brighton and Hove I sometimes feel a bit awkward doing it - especially on a busy bus if you have to shout.
The road pricing scheme I read about would be based on trackers that some cars already have for insurance purposes (to check you drive sensibly or something). Maybe this subject needs its on thread apologies for derailing things.

I once encountered them when I went to collect a lot of tickets from the machine for a future journey to save time on the day as it was an early start. They begrudgingly allowed me thru in the end.
Hmm, now u mention it could have been a refund :s. But in any case but both the TOCs said it was the others responsibility. Another reason I prefer to buy from the TOC providing the service it usually gives you a better interface when it comes to seat selection if a reservation is required...
