Opinions/suggestions for changes to Great Northern or Thameslink and linked services.

The Cambridge to London King’s Cross off peak slows are fairly fast for Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield heading south. They only stop additionally at Potters Bar, Alexandra Palace, and Finsbury Park.

    Birmingham Interchange HS2 station

Not quicker than Heathrow but budget airlines for example don’t fly from Heathrow so Birmingham may be quicker than Stansted, Luton, Gatwick which do!

    Birmingham Interchange HS2 station

It also brings Birmingham Airport within the orbit of London airports. Journey times will I suspect be comparable or quicker than they currently are from central London to Gatwick and Stansted.

Opinions/suggestions for changes to Great Northern or Thameslink and linked services.

Is that not because of the differential between the number of platforms serving the ECML in addition to Thameslink being 13 - 11 at London King’s Cross and 2 at Moorgate versus just 4 serving the Midland Mainline at London St Pancras. Surely it’s this differential which accounts for the...

    Cambridge South new station opening

Agreed. Whittlesford Parkway already serves as a railhead for South Cambs villages heading to London Liverpool Street and Cambridge. And I think Foxton has potential to do the same for the London King’s Cross/St Pancras route - particular if it were possible to create a Foxton Parkway with...

HS2 should stop at more stations in the Chilterns

The obvious location would be an interchange where HS2 crosses EWR and a new town based around it. 1780122594 That’s not true at all - in my experience many are indifferent and many support it but often keep quiet in their communities because they tend to get bullied on social media or...

    Cambridge South new station opening

No - the replaced bridge will simply allow 4 tracking from Shepreth branch junction to Cambridge station. No trains will terminate at Cambridge South and in the future the aim is to minimise the number of trains terminating at Cambridge but there are still two south facing and two north facing...

Why don't trains on Platform 6/7 at Guildford open their doors into Platform 7?

What was the reason originally for Guildford station being designed like this? Why were there not two running lines through 6 and 7. There are some other examples of single running lines with platforms both side - I think Yeovil Pen Mill has the same but I always wondered what the original...

    Cambridge South new station opening

My understanding is that the official centre of Cambridge - the point at which distances have been historically been measured is the doorway to the western entrance to Great St Mary’s church tower

    Reconfiguring 720s for Stansted Express?

What lines do the 730s run? 1778738662 The GA trains are newer than the 2+2 on Thameslink 700s. In my view 3+2 should be abolished on all trains.

Could anything be happening to the old Kings Cross Thameslink/Midland station?

Problem is it’s on. Very busy operational line, which is why filmmakers prefer using heritage railways or disused stations on closed lines like Aldwych and Charing Cross old Jubilee line platforms

    Cambridge South new station opening

Indeed and I wonder what road signs in the area will say since Cambridge (Central) is frequently signed in the area as ‘Station’ with the twin arrows. 1778649664 Agreed - what seemed a curse was actually an opportunity. Had the railway station been located right in the historic core, there...

    Reconfiguring 720s for Stansted Express?

I understand that I’m just interested to know what it is about them that people prefer - because I also find the lack of tables frustrating so I’m interested to hear different perspectives

    Reconfiguring 720s for Stansted Express?

While I respect your opinion, I genuinely can’t comprehend how anybody can conclude that 720s are better than 745/755s. I actively avoid 720s travelling to London Liverpool Street from Whittlesford Parkway via Stansted Airport even though it requires a change and therefore takes longer. The 745s...

Splitting up the Thameslink, Southern and Great Northern franchise post-nationalisation

I seem to recall there being a plan at one point to include fast trains to King’s Lynn within the LNER franchise but I agree it probably makes more sense to retain it as it is.

Splitting up the Thameslink, Southern and Great Northern franchise post-nationalisation

‘Cambridge Cruiser’ keeps coming up as a name - it sounds truly ridiculous; it was awful at the time and makes it sound like a slow service that cruises rather than speeds. Furthermore virtually no fast trains to Cambridge terminate there but run on to Ely or King’s Lynn.

What could be done to increase rail usage outside of London?

But cars can never be a good fit for: - those who can’t afford a car - those who can’t drive - teenagers too young to drive - those with disabilities that preclude them from driving

What would an ideal recast of the South Western routes look like?

I remember in the late 1980s Southampton Airport Parkway or Southampton Parkway was it then known was the last stop before London Waterloo on Weymouth trains -then Winchester arrived and now Basingstoke, Woking, and Clapham Junction are all common.
