    Reform UK discussion

This could quite easily backfire for Kruger as the Lib Dems are quite strong in Wiltshire overall and they are just as likely to win his seat as Reform. Reform actually came 4th in his seat!

The Labour Party under Andy Burnham

My feeling for a while has been that the most likely exit date for Starmer is in 2027. If that is the case then the issue for Burnham might be standing down a year early rather and engineering a by election such as in Graham Stringer's seat. That said he's been in the position for 8 years so...

The Labour Party under Andy Burnham

Interesting that Douglas Alexander has replaced Ian Murray as Scottish Secretary. I don't actually have an issue with that TBH even though Ian Murray is my MP. Bit of a surprise that Ian Murray was sacked but I was surprised Douglas Alexander didn't go straight to the actual Cabinet last year.

    Reform UK discussion

I imagine there are a lot of new Reform voters like my 60 year old cousin. He himself doesn't vote Reform and lives on a modern housing estate in Aycliffe Village. He either votes Labour or doesn't vote at all but probably has similarities with middle aged Reform voters. He has training as a...

    Railway Bridge Adverts.

There's a Ferodo advert at the railway bridge south of the site of the former Chapel-en-le-Frith Central in addition to the Ferodo adverts at Chapel-en-le-Frith Station. I didn't know Ferodo was advertised on railway architecture etc elsewhere.

    Reform UK discussion

It's quite interesting to see where the 'asylum seekers' are coming from. My assumption is most from countries such as Iran, Sudan, Afghanistan, Syria, Eritrea, Somalia etc probably have legitimate claims but ones from Pakistan and Bangladesh I'm very dubious about. I doubt the majority of...

Ongoing lack of honesty / transparency in station late train info

My father got on the wrong train today at Haymarket. He was supposed to be getting the E&G train to Queen St but a 158+170 combo to Perth mysteriously turned up on Platform 4 about 8 minutes late which he boarded and he ended up having to go to South Gyle and back. Of course, I queried why he...

    Reform UK discussion

I don't have an issue with the media giving Reform lots of coverage necessarily given the polls but the nature of the coverage of Farage etc i.e. sensationalist etc is very bad. Reform continues to do very well in local by elections narrowly holding a council seat in Doncaster on Thursday and...

    Edinburgh Tram developments

I don't have strong views one way or the other but the Roseburn Path is heavily used by cyclists so I don't know if they'd need to built yet another new cycle route to compensate. Also not sure about how all the construction access would work particularly around St George's.

    Edinburgh Tram developments

I used to support the Roseburn Path route for a tram route as it would create a unique route that buses don't directly cover although I'm leaning now towards supporting the Orchard Brae route as so many people work at the Western General. I assume the biggest issue would be getting trams over...

    Walking and Rambling discussion

I got the train to Dunkeld&Birnam on Saturday and did the circular walk up round Birnam Hill etc with amazing views from Stair Bridge etc. The Sunday before I got the train to Reston but only just had enough time to walk all the way to St Abbs and back within three hours. I didn't have enough...

Should the Highland Mainline be electrified / redoubled?

Having just been to Dunkeld & Birnam today, I was wondering how much it would cost to make every station on the HML properly accessible in terms of lifts etc. (Or a 'cheaper' ramp etc) Of course with the existing irregular timetable some northbound trains use platform 1 anyway like they do at...

    Airport expansions

Frankfurt-Bristol was operating in 2023 but then they scrapped it last year. I think it's interesting that their Newcastle route continues (NCL has half the passengers of BRS) but perhaps there's more of a business class market there and it's far enough away from MAN?

    Airport expansions

That's interesting. I was wondering why the Newcastle flight was just about hanging in there.

    Airport expansions

Lufthansa has dropped Frankfurt-Bristol so I think there is zero chance of that happening*. (*OK there are summer Edelweiss flights to Zurich).

Lothian Group discussion (Lothian City, Lothian Country Bus and East Coast Buses)

The 10 has definitely served Bonaly since at least the year 2000 and probably before that. Generally it only ran Mon-Sat with a stronger service on the Torphin branch until all 10 buses went to Bonaly in 2022. I have just checked a Lothian buses timetable booklet/map from 2004 and it the loop...

Lothian Group discussion (Lothian City, Lothian Country Bus and East Coast Buses)

The 10 to Bonaly used to go clockwise until they changed it to anti clockwise at some point in the last 20 years. I think it works better now going down Westgarth Avenue the same way as the 16 and is better for folk living on or just off Bonaly Rd coming back from town given how steep it is.

EMR intercity - As bad as xc?

I haven't been on EMR so I can't really comment based on personal experience. An acquaintance was travelling on EMR from St Pancras to Nottingham a few days ago and unfortunately had a track fatality around Kettering and the driver for that service didn't want to continue afterwards so was...

    Airport expansions

I wasn't seriously suggesting closing Glasgow in even the medium term future as it provides a useful role for its local market (Glasgow/Renfrewshire/Ayrshire etc) and the Emirates A380 flight is holding its own just there's no reason for people from Edinburgh to trek over to Glasgow anymore now...

    Buses that serve motorway services

X74 from Dumfries to Glasgow serves Abington services. Also Houstons 101/102 and Stuarts of Carluke services to Lanark etc appear to serve it as well.
