If you could create underwater tunnels for rail travel...

For those who say a train replacing a plane won't work because trains don't have the luggage interchanges/capacities, and don't go into the air terminals, what exactly is there to say that future trains can't? I know it's a controversial subject but imagine a situation where we had to scale...

    Could PPMs replace Pacers?

Yes, my apologies. I was under the impression they were a sort of intermediate between light and heavy rail, but even if that's what they are that's not what they're used for  Maybe they are suitable for some other services which could then cascade their fleets to replace the pacers.

    What Defines a National Operator?

National Express are probably one of the Big Five more for their other transport workings - trains (admittedly scaled back now), coaches, AirLinks buses, and Midland Metro (since the other four all do other things too). Plus they used to run Travel London which was a bit more substantial than...

    What Defines a National Operator?

According to Wikipedia, I'd call that national personally. Although maybe I shouldn't have said ceremonial county, and instead region (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regions_of_England) although something between the two would be better.

    What Defines a National Operator?

I think they're just called the big five because they're the biggest five.. (by a large margin). In my opinion to be a national operator I'd say they just have to have services in more than one non-adjacent ceremonial county. Obviously to be International, more than one country.

    Could PPMs replace Pacers?

Firstly I wholly expect the answer to be "no", and having never used a Pacer I don't know what they're like (luckily, probably). http://www.halesowennews.co.uk/news/9468327.Cradley_Heath_firm_releases_new_images_of_proposed_light_rail_link/ Parry People Movers - class 139...

If you could create underwater tunnels for rail travel...

But they're still travelling from Dublin to London, even if not staying there. Heathrow, at least, could have a station at it.

    Bermuda Park

I don't understand why everyone sees industrial estates or business parks as bad places for a station. On top of the leisure part, with the bowling, hotel, odeon and restaurants, and the retail park, there must be hundreds of workers to serve at Bermuda Park.

    Cheese

I can't stand blue cheese, although try it in a savoury crumble on top of a red onion tart, it's really nice.. mainly because you can't taste the cheese at all... Cheese I actually eat? Wednesleydale and other Cheshires, Feta, Double Gloucester, Cheddar in the right things, Mozerella...

    Bus company names/liveries

How protected are bus company names and liveries? It seems strange how many second hand buses retain their former companies' liveries and even brand names on the side. For example ACL Travel and Handyrider buses are seen in Wolverhampton operated by Travel Express with no effort made to hide...

No charge for Texas dad who killed daughter's rapist

He was also clearly upset by what he'd done and did not intend to kill the man based on what he said on the phone. "Come on! This guy is going to die on me! I don't know what to do!" Clearly did not intend to kill, merely to stop his five year old daughter's rape. And then we have Britain...

    Fat Cat Comedians

I don't understand this. If it's a loophole then it's legal and therefore should be dealt with by the taxman but no need to slur somebody's name (because they haven't broken the law). If it's illegal then the person should be dealt with. I don't understand how there is this weird grey area...

    False platforms

Most of these have been platforms at some point in the past. For good examples of these I would suggest Birmingham Moor Street to Dorridge, most of which have at least one disused platform, some were clearly four platforms in the past. I wonder if they'd ever bring them back into use? It just...

    Anime

I don't like it because the fans are amazingly annoying (apparently what I watch isn't anime, because it's not in Japanese; and Japanese anime ceases to be anime when subtitles are attached). I am not going to sit there and watch a cartoon in another language just so I can call it anime. But...

    Euro Nazis

The fact people are so surprised to find they're actually liberal is what's wrong with politics. People don't want to be associated with certain labels even when it's what they agree with. This is politics, not name calling, it doesn't matter if you're x but would rather call yourself y, if...

    "Boarding" and "alighting"

I agree. To be honest, unlike train station / railway station, this one doesn't even seem ambiguous where I travel, where all announcements say "please make sure you have all your personal belongings when you leave the train". I don't think I've even seen embark/disembark. And I actually...
