Suggestions for the future of Merseyrail operations: more segregation and possible extensions?

Moderator note: split from https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/merseyrail-most-punctual-rail-network-in-uk-for-second-year-running.198827/ As for the future, I'm in favour of keeping Merseyrail within its natural limits (Helsby, Shotton, Skem, just possibly Burscough Bridge) and as far as...

How will HS2/NPR stations at Manchester Airport relate to the existing one?

I'm increasingly puzzled by the reports about a proposed station for HS2/NPR at Manchester Airport. (Shorter via the non-passenger loop but the Rail Miles mileage engine said it was unable to calculate the distance!)...

Stating the case for 5tph on north TPE

It's often suggested that 4 trains per hour (tph) on the North TransPennine Express (TPE) route would be more robust than 5, but I would like to make the case for 5 tph. There are after all 5 potential destinations east of the Pennines (Newcastle via Durham city, Newcastle via Durham coast...

    Penwortham bypass effect on Ormskirk-Preston

The Penwortham bypass opened before Christmas. Has any regular user of the Ormskirk-Preston line noticed any effect on passenger loadings, especially since UCLAN and Edge Hill universities reopened after the holidays?
