    Elizabeth line reliability issues

Yes! Being re-routed into Paddington high-level as a result (eventually)

    Taxi 'improvements' at Winchester

Eh, I find Uber quite reliable in Winchester, it's a lot easier than dealing with local-area companies. I always found the Hackney cabs to be quite expensive for what they were, so was grateful when Uber started serving that area.

    Elizabeth line reliability issues

That's odd, every train I'm seems to cut it off at a different time, as if it was being cancelled manually.

    Elizabeth line reliability issues

Yeah, it does. At this point it's probably just worth letting it run. Having information about stations you're not travelling to is surely better than "Oyster is not valid b"

Blank sign on variable speed limit motorways

Driving southbound on the M6, just before the toll junction there was a speed limit of 20 in the red circle. Never thought they could go that low on a managed motorway, lowest I'd seen before is 40. I obliged, but it didn't half feel scary when others just ignored it and carried on at 70.

    Gatwick Airport and cheap fares

SWR machines definitely offer GroupSave without a journey planner. Indeed, it popped-up with a suggestion to use that instead when I tried to buy returns for 3 adults.

Airline Pricing Model for Rail Fares

Can't that be achieved in the current system by designating Saturday Afternoon/Sunday Evening as 'peak' time and making 0 advances available? Avanti got rid of the peak on a Friday, so they must have the flexibility to change periods as they see fit. (To an extreme end, designate those trains as...

    Elizabeth line reliability issues

Stuck for 30 minutes outside Paddington yesterday due to a broken train, and this morning someone has put a steam train in the middle of the morning peak, causing more delays. I like steam trains as much as the next person, but someone is taking the **** aren’t they?

To what extent is an operator entitled to delay your exit from a station?

Fair enough if that's your experience, at least in 2023 the German system felt like quite a safe one, on train and at station. Every regional and ICE train I was on had a ticket check, so that must be catching most of the revenue, to the point that it's not worth putting barriers in (or else...

To what extent is an operator entitled to delay your exit from a station?

Having just spent a week travelling across Germany, what a brilliant system it is over there. No barriers anywhere at all, just on-board checks (with the threat of heavy fines if no ticket). Not even on the underground systems. Imagine all the money that could be saved across UK rail if you had...

Track circuit failure at Woking, 10-Jun

Yup, a warm day so naturally the South West mainline gets stuffed up thanks to Network Rail. Getting from Aldershot to Waterloo was fun. I must say though, all the station/onboard staff I encountered were doing a great job. It must be such a difficult job in such heat and under much pressure...

    Elizabeth line reliability issues

This was the service this morning rush-hour from Ealing. It feels like this is the case most mornings now. (Also TfL was reporting a good service at the time!)

    Avanti Superfare

Yup. May be going slightly off-topic, but I used to do a lot of travel on the WCML. Arranged my life around the mythical peaks, with the super-expensive fares and (therefore-assumed) rammed trains to justify them. Work bought me a ticket for a departure out of Euston one evening to Liverpool...

Any benefits on any site when booking GWR tickets?

Well I didn't realise that, goodbye waistline

    1992 stock Refurbishment?

I was expecting a bigger refresh internally, however I think the main thing that will make a difference is just tidying up the presentation of what's already there. The 92s have fallen off a cliff, so much internal graffiti and etched glass that's just not being sorted. The seats are pretty...

TOCs 'have begun barring ticket office staff from selling advanced fares' (Northern trial)

They're available between Greenbank and Manchester, so not stealing revenue from anyone else. I think it's good, they're always available and just less than half the price of a return, assumed it was a way of introducing 'single-leg' pricing without any expensive trials. I've certainly taken...

Land slip between Winchester and Basingstoke

There's zero guidance or announcements at Waterloo as to when any service will be heading down towards Weymouth (and therefore Basingstoke for taxis). Even a "look, assume it's going to be a couple of hours" would be helpful for finding other routes, instead of standing around hoping.

    Super off peak

Remember on a Saturday you can also use the 1846 from Euston on a super off-peak ticket: You'll be travelling to Stafford or Crewe on that train from London, so the easement applies. At least it's been fine when I've used it!

Negative perception of booking offices and clerks

Waterloo were very pleasant about excessing an e-ticket last week. I felt I was being a bit awkward with my request, but I wasn't made to feel that way.
