Train hits two cars at level crossing in Herefordshire

Im not trying to draw any conclusions. It's a tragedy for all involved. I would suspect that an equipment problem has led to this, however it is anyones guess....

Train hits two cars at level crossing in Herefordshire

The treadle is in advance of the protecting signal obviously. Plus any track circuit in advance of the protecting signal which is interlocked with the crossing controls.

Train hits two cars at level crossing in Herefordshire

Are you an idiot!? The failsafe activates the red road lights, why the hell would it drop the barriers? I know such systems exist because i work in a signal box you doughnut....

Train hits two cars at level crossing in Herefordshire

I am not disputing the fact that this is a contolled crossing, as have i neither stated this is an auto crossing. What i am explaining is a fail-safe system which has likely activated after the incident had taken place.

Train hits two cars at level crossing in Herefordshire

I understand the principles of interlocking, the crossing is a full barrier type and locally monitored. My point is that an overrun treadle or the occupation of a controlling track circuit is the likely reason for the road lights to be on after the accident has taken place.

Train hits two cars at level crossing in Herefordshire

The Road lights are illuminated as a fail-safe. When the train strikes a treadle/occupies a track circuit within a certain distance of a crossing, it automatically triggers the road lights to start flashing....this should in theory prevent anyone from attempting to pass the crossing in a car...

    SWT Train Fire

Unfortunately, the Desiro's just are not able to cope with the temperature. They either loose the line light or catch fire. So much for german efficiency eh?

    SWT Train Fire

The ice forms a layer on top of the 3rd rail, when the pickup shoe tries to draw current it sparks and arcs like nobody's business. That said, the 450's seem to be alot more prone to catching fire. 458's just seem to fail outright rather than catching fire lol

    SWT Train Fire

Train involved was the 0638 Portsmouth Harbour to Waterloo (headcode 1T22). Another driver in a passing train had reported the fire to the signaller. Just to top it off, another train in the line that formed had failed and needed to be assisted....

    Feltham Problems?

The river runs though a tunnel under the ground where the line will be slewed.

    Feltham Problems?

Just means they will lay an intermediate section of track alongside the bridge, which will connect with the track either side. It could either be a bi-directional line, or parallel running to keep up and down trains moving simultaneously. --- old post above --- --- new post below ---

    Feltham Problems?

The Bridge will take anywhere from several weeks to months to replace. The short-term fix which has been put in place is to slew the line (place new track) on what used to be the old Marshalling yard. This could take a few days to do, and would likely result in block working taking...

    Feltham Problems?

Last i heard, the proposal is to slew the track over the land where the old marshalling yard used to be.

    Feltham Problems?

Hello chaps, looks like GB is spot on with the bridge details. River Crane bridge 3/48. Its the one with the footpath on the down line. Potentially looks like the whole structure might be replaced, lots of missing ballast and alot of damage to the concrete....could cause problems for quite...
