Are Cross Rail trains semi-fast west of Paddington and will they replace all or just some of the current GWR stoppers? Final question, is the GWR two or four track between Reading and Paddington?
Thanks for the explanation, I was about to ask why Eurostar trains are restricted to 230km/h in the second section of HS1 which runs mostly underground but you saved me the trouble!
The maximum speed under the channel which also has up and down trains in separate tunnels is 99mph, are they simply not wide enough for high speed running?
I keep hearing that the new line will run through extensive tunnels starting in west London, through the Chilterns and under south Manchester to name some examples. Does this not increase journey times because of speed restrictions that will need to be imposed because of heat dissipation issues...
Just a little something regarding high speed operation using two pantographs. While reading up about the APT I came to know that the engineers solution to the problem of oscillating head spans was to couple the two power cars together in the centre of the train, is this simply not an option with...
Under the river to Thamesmead and through to Abbey Wood for interchange with Crossrail by 2033? Definitely not happening but what does everyone think about this proposal?
If the savings are really that vast then there really is nothing more to be said apart from build the dang thing in Balham! The reason I initially preferred the Tooting option was because Tooting Broadway is currently the busiest non interchange tube station south of the river, the much needed...
Why is the Victoria line so busy? Was looking at the usage figures for different underground lines and noticed that, going by average journeys per mile, it is by far and away the busiest route and that's including the anomaly that is the one stop only Waterloo and City.
It never occurred to me, excepting street running sections, that a Metrolink set and a diesel powered heavy rail vehicle couldn't share paths provided there was an overhead power source for the latter. I know the two networks are now completely isolated but what were to happen if hypothetically...
Can anyone tell me why the Altrincham line hasn't been extended to Hale? I'm guessing there's a lot more work involved than simply extending the overhead cables by less than a mile.
Ok thanks for all your replies, good to hear that even before 2cc is complete the service is being utilised and steadily increasing in popularity too. My second question is regarding the long street running sections prevalent on both the Ashton and airport routes and its impact on other road...
Hi all first time posting here! Lived in Manchester for a year back in 2006 and had a chance to ride the Bury/Altrincham and Picc/Eccles lines, thought it was a fantastic service, a great way to revitalise part of the underused heavy rail network around Manchester and a nice addition to the city...
