    Northern Strike/ticket res query.

Its booked train only, which would't be a problem if there was no disruption. I'll purchase new tickets.

    Northern Strike/ticket res query.

What should I do? (I just need a bit of reassurance really)... The tickets are; 2 adults return Coventry-Blackpool Pleasure Beach Station (sold as advance singles) bought from Thetrainline in one transaction. We completed the outward journey. The return is booked for the 14:17 VTWC from...

    Preston station ticket checks

I don't object at all to ticket checks (bar slow staff actually causing an obstruction) but I must say what the OP describes sounds hazardous. How far from the steps are they? It sounds like a potential accident waiting to happen in terms of trips and falls if a queue develops. Northern...

If a train is booked to stop, must it, in fact, physically do so?

I was once on a southbound Virgin WCML service that was delayed. As far as I know/remember It called additionally at Stafford and then went non stop to Euston rather than going through the Midlands.

Ideas for future use of Cross Country Voyagers if they are displaced

I'd like to see Arriva Trains Wales take them on to cascade some 175's or 158's elsewhere not that its likely although it could increase capacity.

Why cant i get off replacement bus at Manchester?

Can of worms: What if the service is RRB but there are no ticket facilities? TOC's don't generally put a conductor/Guard on a replacement coach.

    Is this tresspass?

I agree that it is likely to be construed as trespass and would advise against entering. Sounds sensible, but I guess that the OP will be told no for a multitude of reasons. "Health and safety" being one of them. (More like insurance liability!) I reckon that in a few years things will change...

    Blatant fare evasion again

What if he had a ticket and we're all jumping to conclusions? Could be an off duty copper testing the OP for all we know.

What are the longest distance services Pacers are booked to work?

I know you meant pathed but its more amusing as patched! "Ah we'll just patch up this timetable by throwing in a few Pacers" I did Bristol to Cardiff in a Pacer on Train sim and it seemed to take forever.

    Favourite View Of The Railway

My favourite view of the railway is that its a useful system that gets passengers from point to point for a fair price without interuption or delay ;) I always enjoy looking at freight sidings and being amazed at the complexity of the individual rails.

Is extending the 2nd half of an off-peak day return allowed?

I knew I was going to get at least one response like that ;) Curious is all.

    Virgin trains compensation

The OP seeks compensation. Not delay repay. I read the post on that basis.

Is extending the 2nd half of an off-peak day return allowed?

The clerk and ticket exchange seems fairly normal. The OP got the right ticket. I'm confused why the friend suddenly changed their mind about meeting in Littlehampton? Suddenly they want to meet in Portsmouth? The distance between the two is nigh 30 miles... They could have travelled together...

    Virgin trains compensation

FAO; Original poster 'crosscity'; I have a feeling that Virgin have come to the correct amount (£17) owed/refund to the OP.[/b] There is no liability for your journey between Northfield and Birmingham New Street. You purchased tickets seperately (most likely through London Midland who...

The continuing use of Pacers on busy Northern Rail services between key cities

Can anybody with any certainty make comment on the overall reliability of a Pacer in comparison to other units? I imagine overall the simplistic nature(?) of the unit at least is some consolation to operators. Please substitute the word 'scrapheap' for 'preserved railways'. Perfect...

    Claiming twice: honest or dishonest?

In my opinion, If the first ticket is found then surely it would be refunded as if not travelled. The second ticket remains valid and then gets the appropriate delay repay. This is the situation that accounts for both contracts being entirely valid. I don't believe the position of a TOC not...

Should "Corporate Image" Be Independent Of TOC Franchisee

I think they do. If the first impression is "That train is hideous" it sets an unconscious tone. I also think First have done well to move away from the boring blue/pink and towards regionalisation. Both GWR and the new TPE livery look great. Virgin need a refresh if you ask me, I think the...

    Decaying trains at Crewe

On yet another tangent; Are there any other places to see mothballed stock? Sorry if anybody feels tilted by me going off topic ;)

Penalty Advice (touch in not registered)

Prior history of paying to my knowledge is only useful if you are proving you paid for specific journey's. In fact it could count against you, as missing days may raise the question of whether you avoided payment on other days etc. Its like a prolific thief saying "Look at all the XYZ things I...

Could the class 220/221 cars be joined to MK3 with barrier vehicle?

Firstly; I don't know about coupling arrangments in any case. I still don't understand what blue star is; ("bog standard"?) On a related note, Does anybody know the statistics for the number of mothballed MK2/MK3 carriages, and if so what other combinations could work? I was thinking whether a...
