The journey is only about 30 minutes and I would book a standard anytime return on Virgin for £37, even if I had to stand up. In first class you probably only get tea or coffee anyway. For such a short trip I would not bother booking first class.

I agree that they shouldn't stand in front or next to the non smoking sign and having a cigarette. A bit out of sight and nobody would notice and have any reasons to complain. Maybe they need a good smoke to wind down after dealing with lots of passengers, some difficult, some not. I see...

I used to keep my tickets to remember which places I have visited by train, doing day trips. Then, one day when I was having a clear out, I threw all my tickets away. I wish I would have at least kept a diary, cause I ended up going to a place twice and only remembered it when I saw the railway...

Mine is on the Pendolino coach G or H, seat 2 individual, from Euston. Coach H has a restricted view, but it did not bother me too much. On my next trip, East Coast, I am sitting in coach L, seat 63 individual, too. Hope it has a big window! It does not show on their seating plan.

This must be very frustrating for you. Unless the laws have changed recently, it is the responsibility of every landlord, social or private, to have a yearly gas safety check done. Smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors are not a legal requirement for landlords to supply, but recommended...
