Closure of the level crossing between Dalwhinnie and Ben Alder estate

Have a death and then do nothing seems to be fine for the M8. Are you OK with that?

Closure of the level crossing between Dalwhinnie and Ben Alder estate

A fair number, here's a couple of recent ones. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-55508139 https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-57523813 They end up dead. In contrast the Dalwhinnie crossing is used by hundreds of walkers every year. None of...

Campaigners ‘aghast’ that £20m new Reston station in Borders may be served by just eight trains a day

I was referring to the central borders and not the line as a whole. In the first complete year following opening (16/17) Tweedbank achieved 909% of annual forecast trips, which grew by a further 0.2% in 17/18 and 1.6% in 18/19. Galashiels achieved 639% of forecast numbers, growing by a...

Campaigners ‘aghast’ that £20m new Reston station in Borders may be served by just eight trains a day

I think they are playing politics and as often in Scotland shooting at an open goal. For the last few years the loudest cheerleader for Reston Station has been John Lamont, the local tory MP. He was very much against reopening the Borders railway until it happened and became a huge success, in...

    Safest Place on a Train

The train crash I was in the casualties were at the front. This doesn't stop me taking a seat near the front.

Extended bridges which have seen very few trains

Following a long campaign by local MPs the Damhead bridge carrying the Forfar branch over the A94 near Coupar Angus was rebuilt. Due to its narrow width and restricted headroom it was an accident blackspot. Three months later BR closed the line completely.

Trivia; platforms on bridges over large rivers/lakes/sea?

The long-gone Hawick station's platforms extended out over the River Teviot.

Borders Railway Extension: suggestions on how this should progress

I think Bald Rick's money is safe until the locals vote for an SNP MSP. And there doesn't seem to be much likelihood of that.

Borders Railway Extension: suggestions on how this should progress

Well Tweedmouth - Newtown St Boswells did come in useful as a diversion for a few months following the 1948 floods. That's one use as a diversion in the 113 years of its existence. But it's a moot point as no one is going to reopen south of Gala as a diversionary through route.

Borders Railway Extension: suggestions on how this should progress

There is a business park currently under construction to the east of Tweedbank station. The access road has passive provision for a bridge over any railway extension which would also become the new station access.

    Scottish Electrification updates & discussion

Current Tay viaduct is single track with a pedestrian walkway. It was never double, although the timber arched viaduct it replaced was.

Trivia: Stations with no scheduled services passing through non-stop

All stations on the Borders railway except Stow.

Bus on the line at Gala 08/12/19

The The line wasn't built then! But it should have been assessed as part of the design process, though I'm still puzzled as to how anyone would crash there. All cleared up now and apart from a couple of cancellations this morning trains running normally again.

Bus on the line at Gala 08/12/19

Breaking news from the Borders Railway. (Picture from Border Telegraph). No word on any casualties but no trains between Tweedbank and Gorebridge. Picture from Railscot in daylight from the same location. I have to go to Edinburgh tomorrow. Rail replacement bus or bus replacement train?

Borders Railway Extension: suggestions on how this should progress

Alex Hynes on a radio phone in https://twitter.com/i/status/1188471698636587009 He says passenger numbers are growing faster than they can add more carriages. He is now promising six car 170s in the peak once HST roll out is complete. Six cars are the maximum that most of the stations can...

Borders Railway Extension: suggestions on how this should progress

If all public expenditure was allocated on that basis there would be no schools, hospitals, roads or anything else built outside the central belt. If the trains weren't full on arrival in Gorebridge more passengers from Midlothian would have used them.

Borders Railway Extension: suggestions on how this should progress

The former station was (partly) on the viaduct. Most of the rest of the site, and the original 1849 station, is underneath the swimming pool and leisure centre. There's plenty of room to construct an appropriately sized terminus slightly short of the original site, which is all that's likely...

Borders Railway Extension: suggestions on how this should progress

As another constituent of Ms Grahame's I would have to say that she is a very effective constituency MSP. It's also necessary to look at the politics which lurk behind her statement at the CBR AGM. She would have been well aware of this recent report link to Border Telegraph report. Safe in...
