Difficulty in finding anything for 21st September so it'll just have to be the daily commute
21st September 1989
319012+319036 St Helier to Wimbledon
3115 Wimbledon to Waterloo
5866 Waterloo to Wimbledon
319013+319059 Wimbledon to St Helier
But on 22nd September 1979, life was a little more...
47403 - no offence taken. More than happy to share my experiences. Just wait until OTDIH gets around to high summer and see what I turn up with ......
Post refurb, the 50s certainly became more consistent but there's nothing to beat a decent unrefurb one in good nick bowling along Brunel's...
Back to 1986 and another rail tour, The Lincolnshire Coast Pullman. Bruce & I fancied a bit of a track bash so booked on this all first class trip. Plus a 58 to both Skeggie and Cleethorpes was nothing short of rate-able.
20th September 1986
58039 Kings Cross to Skegeness (London Kings Cross...
42 was another of the infamous six (50039-44) from the late 70s/early 80s that were allocated to Bristol Bath road at the time and the external appearance of all six can only be described as a delicate shade of "grime/oil". But mechanically, they were some of the best (and loudest prior to refurb).
1981 seems to be the only year when loco haulage features on 19th September
50025 Paddington to Bristol TM on the down midnight
50012 Bristol TM to Paddington on the up Milford
50048 Paddington to Worcester SH via Gloucester
50048 Worcester SH to Reading
50014 Reading to Exeter St Davids

You'll need eyes in the back of your head at Reading if you want to cover everything! There's stuff terminating in bay platforms at both ends - at the London end bays you'll get SWR stuff from Waterloo plus Great Western 165s on the North Downs route while at the country end bays, there will be...
And now for something a little different. A mid-week mini rail tour on 18th September 1986.
51656+51876 Marylebone to High Wycombe
then a mini tour to Thame and back with 55000, yes a single bubble car!
51677+51678 High Wycombe to Marylebone
Alas my notes do not give anything about the tour...
Certainly - the one that I amassed a mere 8,387 miles with. In pre-refurb days it was notorious for being a delicate shade of black - a combination of general grime and oil. None other than 50043 Eagle. Most memorable trip with it was on a Saturday night in January 1980 on the down sleepers when...
17th September seems to be a rather bleak day for me. Just daily commutes t/from work - that is with the exception of 17th September 1981 when I did the following after work leap
50021 Paddington to Evesham
50002 Evesham to Paddington
In the late 70s & early 80s, 47/3s (along with all the 47/0s that had no heating apparatus) were pretty common on passenger. It was only the Immingham and Thornaby ones that were really rare. Crewe and Bescot ones were as common as 47/4s in the summer months back then. About the only 47 hotspot...

33063 Bath Spa to Bristol TM
50024 Bristol TM to Birmingham New Street
50024 Birmingham New Street to Bristol TM

Spent most of the day bus bashing around London then
5711 Waterloo to Clapham Junction
7788 + 7797 Clapham Junction to Streatham Common
47420 Streatham Common to Mitre Bridge Junction (additional call at Streatham Common due to engineering) routed via Herne Hill

LSG, yes it was the final summer Saturday on the Western Region. There would be a whole eight months to wait for most of the summer dated trains to recommence.
212 was an Immingham loco at the time and IM locos of any description were never refused as they were as rare as the proverbial rocking...
September 13th 1980
Having taken advantage of my parents' hospitality on the Friday evening, Saturday was set aside for bashing, especially as my parents were working for a fair part of the day.. Mum had a delivery to make in Bath so I cadged a lift. Starting off with an absolute whopper of a...
12th September 1980 saw me returning from London to visit my parents near Bristol
50026 Paddington to Swindon
Nice fester at Swindon as I had espied the loco for the Fridays only steam heat or so I thought. Instead it showed up on the generator van set (a Mark 3 set with a generator van)

Well, I'm still here in my 41st year of bashing - had quite a few years off and on. OK locos don't often come my way these days but I've been logging everything since 1978 and logged a lot since 1973. I still need various locos but most are caged on preserved railways and I have yet to venture...
