I agree with your points Barry, all totally logical.
However, Chiltern website is offering the £ 27.50 off peak return fare on 10:15 out of London Marylebone tomorrow, arr Birmingham Moor Street 11:59 then Dep Birmingham Moor Street 12:30 on London Midland to arrive Stratford Upon Avon...
Would be most grateful for someone's help with this.
I am intending to travel from London to Stratford-upon-Avon tomorrow, returning Friday on a Chiltern Railway off peak return £ 27-50.
Is this ticket valid via Birmingham Moor Street on Chiltern mainline, then on London Midland to...
For those of you who enjoy travelling on little-used lines :), please note that London Overground are running trains Willesden Junction - Queens Park - South Hampstead - Camden Road via Primrose Hill this Sunday morning as the normal route via West Hampstead and Gospel Oak is closed for...
Quite - and that's without mentioning M40, original A41 by pass for Tring then A41 extension Cow Roast to Kings Langley + Aston Clinton bypass. Doubtless some people did complain at the time but I don't recall anything on the level of this orchestrated anti-HS2 campaign.
If memory serves, once the Bedford - Cambridge line was closed space became available to take the Varsity line's 2 tracks through Sandy station (eastern side platforms) and convert them to East Coast Main line running; this converted what had been a 2 track bottleneck into the 4 track line we...
Have heard of the Princes Risborough - Bicester stretch of the former GWR / GCR Joint line referred to as the "green desert" due presumably to lack of any significant habitation in the area.
Maybe this was a slightly poetic description from a railway book rather than actually used by railway...
We did whole process in under 2 weeks - but I delivered/collected our documents/passports in person to speed things up and to reduce charges for each way recorded mail. Russian consulate in UK outsources whole visa process to VFS Services, based near Barbican in the City. You enter all your...
May I recommend you consider sea Tallinn to Helsinki - many ferry crossings each day. Then rail Helsinki to St Petes which was the most stress free entry to Russia I have ever made as all immigration and customs are done on the move on board the Allegra train.
I see you have already...
No, it's a completely new 100 km stretch of line from Kars to Akhalkalaki in Georgia, then upgrading the exisiting Akhalkalaki - Tbilisi line. Interesting that you were very recently in the area and saw no sign of any works.
Thanks for these links, mate. My Russian is just about up to reading them but your summary makes it much easier !
Strange that it is reported in the Armenian media. You'd expect Armenia to be dissing the project in that it serves to isolate the country even more than it is already. It...
We collected from the ticket office at Victoria this evening where the booking clerk eventually found the reservation and gave us our Day Saver tickets. The ticket machines were still not recognising the transaction.
Thanks everyone for your help with this !
I keyed in the 7 digit reservation letters / numbers (not the reference number) in 2 different Southern (not South Eastern) machines at Victoria station. Machines said 'no record of reservation'. Is your opinion that one can only collect tickets TOD or should it be possible in advance ?
Yesterday I ordered 2 of these for 18 july for £12 each. Rec'd reservation code from Southern but machines at Victoria do not recognise the reservation number. Can we only collect these tickets on the actual day of use ? I would like to collect in advance as i live in watford where there are no...
Perhaps this is a little obscure for a UK railways site.
Does anyone have any inside or local information about the progress of the Kars-Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi-Baku railway, the regional rail link project to directly connect Turkey, Georgia and Azerbaijan. Per Wikipedia the project was...
I was born and brought up in North Harrow and lived there until 1975. I always remember at Rayners Lane station 4 sidings behind the Uxbridge direction (Up?) plaform. I seem to remember coal wagons often being left there though why they would be delivering coal to an electrified underground line...
Does anyone remember the interim service called Heathrow FastTrain which commenced in January 1998 and ran to a temporary station called Heathrow Junction, where a coach took passengers the rest of the way to the Airport Terminals ?
The full service opened in June 1998 whereupon this...
Any one have any ideas as to the identity of the station in the Match.com TV advert ? "Girl on the platform smiled ..... " I thought maybe somewhere on South West route out of London Waterloo.
