Had a few incidents just this year -
Was at BKQ and there was a loud band and a flash up the tunnel then some smoke started drifting onto the platform - pretty sure that was a dead animal of some sort, got caught in the 3rd rail.
Again at BKQ, there was what looked like a dead fox/badger on...
Without any knowledge of a cab, my only possible concern would be if you need to slouch in the chair in order to get your feet up - ie reducing visibility.
Obviously people who have actually been in a cab of that type will have a better idea.
Personally i think there are too many stations in manchester city centre now, after all Victoria to Picadilly on foot is only around 20 minutes.
With the proximity of Oxford Road, Deansgate and Central i don't think we really need them all.
That said, deansgate provides an important tram...
Interesting stuff thanks!
I love hidden/old stuff - the station secrets thread is really interesting.
Some images i came across:

Passed through Lime St again yesterday, as i do every wednesday and while i was waiting i started wondering what the platform between 6 and 7 is for.
There is track there, but i think it has been isolated and nothing can actually run onto it now. On the ground the faded paint still says...
I remembered a couple of others to add -
Services from Manchester Oxford Road at evening peak always seem to be jammed - one slight delay in one train has massive knock on effects for ages.
The best trick i've found is to go right to the front of the platform - once i caught a TPE which was...
Steam + Mk1's on the Cumbrian Coastline - all the way Barrow to Carlisle.
Ideally stopping at my hometown!
The last steam tour to make it up that far i think was the Tornado last year, i'd like to see more!
Perhaps there will be as it seems the only way to do any part of the Cumbrian Coast...
Not having a decent service to Ince & Elton is the reason why it's off the list of candidate locations when i move house.
If i could commute to Manchester from Ince & Elton to arrive there at 9am and leave at 5pm then it'd be useful.
I don't think the village is very big though so i can't see...
I have occasionally talked to people, but more often than not i come over all british and just as i'm about to get up the courage to say something, the other person gets off!
I usually try and interject if someone is looking flustered/stressed. I attempt to distract them from whatever is...
Not a platform display error -
Yesterday i was travelling to liverpool lime street and due to engineering works between hooton and chester, as we passed James St. the on board display changed to "this is the merseyrail service to hooton" - no problem. It then proceeded to say "the next station...
I don't get that, the article implies that fares would rise from Northern to replace the trains and that it's Northerns fault.
It's already been well discussed that - northern cannot replace trains because the franchise won't let them and Serco/Abellio have said that they would be willing to...
Well DRS are owned by BNFL/NDA so technically they are nuclear employees. I guess they'd have to go through some sort of special training/asssessment for the jobs involving radioactive material.
I think it depends on the tour, for sure the Venice Simplon Orient Express tours are like this - their website talks about dress codes and all sorts!
Most tours though you can do pretty much what you can on an ordinary train.
We went on our first this year and really enjoyed it, also...
How about hydrogen fuel cell trains?
Hydrogen can be produced very greenly using solar farms (thats the heat type, not photovoltaics) and mirrors to heat water in a solar furnace (to produce electricity, then used for electrolysis). Obviously the best way is to use the electricity generated at...
Cool, thanks for the info. I'd seen them at stations plenty of times and knew what they were for, i just hadn't seen them anywhere else.
In this case, it will be for clearing the points to allow reversing into Rock Ferry plat 3/4.
Interesting on the 15 car in the tunnel, i hadn't given it much...
On my way home today i noticed that after Rock Ferry station (toward Birkenhead) there was a 3Car Stop sign and a 6 car stop sign in between Rock Ferry and Green Lane station.
Since i've never noticed them before i wouldn't have thought they exist from the old Tranmere station (that and they...
I think that sums up people in britain in general!
Most people i see every day won't smile and always look quite miserable.
So what i do, is smile at everyone, when one person smiles back it immediately brightens my day :)
I've seen a similar train regularly outside the JLR plant on merseyside. I believe these ones go to liverpool docks for export, i don't know about the one you saw.
